Guys, Does anyone know whether the 450/400 x3" (or 3 1/4") was ever offered with a Velopex loading? If it was ... what weight was the Velopex projectile and any idea on speed? Cheers... Con

To my knowledge, I don't recall it ever being offered in a commercial Velopex loading, several of my fellow DRSS members do shoot 300 grain bullets over the same powder charge used in the 400 grain bullet loadings with great success. It is common practice for those who have .410 & .411 caliber rifles to shoot 300 Grain 405 Winchester bullets. Make a great round for anything on this side of the pond. In my vintage .408 rifle, I draw the bullets down to .408. They work great! Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate. Thanks Rusty, Indeed ... in a Ruger No1 ... I have Hornady 300gr spitzers coming and Sierra 210gr pistol pills to try. Of no use to double users ... but I want to test the true versatility of the 450/400NE when loaded to the potential of its case capacity. I was just wondering whether a Velopex loading was ever offered as a historical curiosity to what I'm about to try. Cheers... Con

That Ruger will most certainly let you expand the range and velocity of the 450/400 3 inch. You are fortunate not to have to deal with "regulation". For you within the limits of the Ruger and your ability to deal with recoil you can really "Hot Rod" that round. While not "inexpensive", Hawk Bullets can make you a .410 300 grain or just about whatever you want. Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate. We have a local maker cutting monolithic 270gr to 300gr 45cal pills at the moment, after which he's promised a 300-340gr 416" pill, but lightly jacketed for soft game ... I intend pushing them through a 0.410" sizing die. Cheers... Con
