Hello, Is there a bolt- action as large as Granite Mountaine and express rifles? I know that express rifles has a problem and granite mountain is costly. BIG AL

Big Al, I am not sure how big the Granite mountain action is. But the CZ550 and the BBK-02 are large Mauser type actions that are big enough to build the 585 Nyati and 577 Tyrannosaur on. The BBK-02 bolt is a bit larger in diameter than the CZ550, .721 vs. .708. Other than that and the safety these two actions are very similar.

Big Al,
This is tough duty. Most actions as large as the ones that you have named are custom, and I use that term in the highest sense. They are usually handmade or short run CNC either of which is still expensive.
Best bet for least price and I mean price only is Ruger. They have an action that will work with the .416 Rigby at approximately $1250.00 for a complete rifle. But you can also look at the CZ's, they have actions that accommodate .416's also. I am unsure of the exact price but there is a fuzzy memory of $650.00 to $800.00 complete. There is a possibility of getting the CZ as an action only or barreled action. Whereas I think the Ruger has to be purchased as a complete rifle.
Well as long as I'm at it, Sako makes an action that will hold the .338 Lapua which is a .416 Rigby necked down. Approx. $1000.00 in it's lowest form of a complete rifle. Actions only are available as the MDL. 75.
Or I know a couple of truly custom builders that can get you going for the entry level fee of about $6000.00 complete with a cartridge specific box and excellent trigger. (I'm smiling) This is the greatest drawback to computers, you can't make jokes.
Hope this helps. If you need more, just hit the e-mail sign.

Big Al,
I just remembered one more. Butch Searcy has a Magnum Double Square Bridge but I don't know the price. An educated guess would be $2200.00 to $2300.00 with bottom metal and trigger.
There is also supposed to be a similar action out of South Africa, I think called "Vector" made by a company called Selous. I have the web address on my computer at work, I'll send it to you in the morning.
Bill

I just looked up the website for Selous:
www.selousrifles.com
It's a nice site if nothing else. I did look at one at Butch's booth at SCI and thought it was fairly well made.

Backwards ... the "Vecktor" action, made in the R.S.A., is distributed by "Selous" and "Searcy".

The next step up is the "German Magnum" action distributed by Johannsen and others.

Granite Mountain makes a magnum mauser action with a .750" bolt diameter and, if I recall correctly, a 3.88" magazine box. They sell for $3500 or something like that. The Selous /Searcy action sells for about $2500 or so (check with the mfr. for genuinely accurate prices). And again, if I remember correctly, Johannsen gets $5K for his action.

Wells in Prescott, AZ gets $11K for a magnum mauser action, but they will make it with a .800 bolt diameter if you wish.

Have you tried McMillan. People think they only make stocks but they make a beautiful action. The McMillan action is the one that John Lazzeroni uses for his rifles and they will easily hold the big cases. By the time you add custom bottom metal and a trigger you will be looking at about $1200 retail but they are one hell of an action and they will take most of the Remington 700 after-market parts.

500grains,
Since I live here, I gave Fred Wells a call because that price sounded high compared to a couple of months ago. I talked to Dan since Fred and Rachel are on vacation. Dan said that the Magnum Double Square Bridge Mauser is $5000.00 complete with bottom metal and trigger. The $11,000.00 price would have to apply to the 22% bigger action which requires different bottom metal and trigger. With all the bells and whistles on it we came up with about $11000.00 complete.
But if you really want to get carried away, look at the 44% larger action, it is massive, and starts at approximately $15,000.00 and there isn't much you couldn't put on it. Just more information.
