I have finished sighting in the CZ 458 Lott that JudgeG gave me last weekend. I made sort of a standing bench rest in the back of my Polaris Ranger, and with a PAST recoil pad on, the recoil wasn't bad at all. The rifle is shooting one inch groups at 100 yds with Hornady 500gr soft points. These were full power Lott loads. I vowed not to shoot anymore Win Mags in it unless in was an emergency. I had gotted the scope adjustments close with the Win Mags, and fine tuned with the Lott loads, but actually there wasn't a whole lot of difference in the point of impact. The rifle has a decelerator recoil pad on it, and shooting it offhand with no other pad is not something I would want to do a whole lot in one day, but I have gotten used to the recoil and just "roll with the blow" and it isn't nearly as bad as I had heard it would be. I am a pretty good sized guy (5'11" 225) and can see where it would really kick the piss out of someone much smaller. As we say in the south, I think I have "made peace" with this beast, and I like it a lot. I will practice with it extensively before my 21 days in Tanzanie next yars, and look forward to the boom!!!!! Thanks to all who offered advice on the scope and other questions I had. BTW, anybody ever use the Hornady Soft Points on Game?? This rifle seems to like them, and both the soft points and solids are readily availble, whereas the Federals are not.
