Model 70 in .375 Availability? Login/Join

I have been trying to find a Model 70, Classic Stainless in .375. Wal-Mart has a special order rifle program. Great. I try to order, and am told there are none available with no idea when they might be available. Asked several other shops in the area, same thing. Is there a shortage of this rifle? Can anyone point me in the direction of one?

Thanks!

Check Gunbroker. There are almost always M70 .375s to be had there.

Thanks, Snowwolfe, but I am pretty set on a Model 70. The other guns in the safe would rebel if I put a non CRF rifle amongst them. ;-)

Taxphd,

You can try and get US Repeating Arms (Winchester) to tell you what distributors took the latest shipments of that model and then start calling. You need to be prepared to purchase sight unseen, then all you need is to get your local ffl to place the order. I did this back when they first brought back the CRF action. I couldn't find a Super Grade in 300 Win. I did find one after many calls. Another route you may try is call locals that sell a larger number of this model, like in Alaska. Great Northern Guns, in Anchorage maybe worth a try.

I have one that I am looking to sell, albeit used. I have had it since the late 90's meaning it does not have a plastic follower, but probably have not much more than a 100 rounds through it. If you are interested, e-mail me at:

Hmm. Sports South doesn't even list the stainless as a stocking piece any more.

Lipseys(who Wal-Mart uses - at least around here), doesn't show any inventory.

Davidsons doesn't show any either.

Zander's isn't showing any inventory on the Stainless at all...except for a "new" model called the Shadow Elite, which they don't have ANY calibers of in stock.

Try this place, they had inventory of Steyr ProHunters after most of the wholesalers were sold out:

CDNN has a special on the blued/walnut Safari Express for $889 http://www.cdnninvestments.com

I was looking for a classic stainless 70 in 375 two months ago. Apparently winchester makes one run of these a year. I believe they told me the last run was in Jan 2004. They gave me the name of four distributors who had ordered large quantities but all were sold out. I found mine by calling large chain stores and was lucky to find one in invintory at Scheels all sports for a few bucks more than Walmart would have charged. BTW mine will need to go to a gunsmith for feeding problems. The last round in the box always jumps ahead of the extractor when the bolt is cycled quickly.

Count yourself lucky-- if you were left-handed, Winchester only makes a run of those about every two years.

Here is their Website. I did not see a stainless/synthetic Model 70 in .375 H&H but I only scanned quickly. Their phone number is on the web page.

TaxPhd,

Maybe give the Sportsmans Wharehouse in Thornton(I-25 & 84th) a call. They had one on the shelf last time I was there. But that was about 3 weeks ago. Their Loveland store is equally well stocked if not more so as I have seen them there in the past as well.

I sent mine back to Winchester as the front site was misaligned. They are replacing it with a new one, but said they will not be available until mid-November.

Thanks, David, I'll try that. I went to their Aurora store and they didn't have anything. Guy behind the counter all but told me he wouldn't even try to order one.

David,

I called every Sportsman's in Colorado. No one has them, and they don't know when or if they will get them.

I saw the one on GunsAmerica. Not sure what model it is, but the Classic Stainless has iron sights. That one doesn't, and the scope doesn't have much value for me.

Thanks for all the help everybody. I've got a line one that may work for me. I'm just waiting for more info. on it.

Scott,

The Firing line had one last week but I bought it. It is already in Texas becoming a useable rifle and already has a home.

You can call the Firing Line up in Aurora they usually have one or two in stock.
