Which rings and bases?? Login/Join

I've had a 2.5-8x36 Leupold for some time (just waiting on a 375), Saturday I bought a Winchester model 70 375H&H and yesterday I ordered some Warne QD rings. Then last night while playing with my shinny new toy I notice there isn't a lot of room to mount the scope. In fact it may not even fit. Has anyone used the winchester-leupold-warne combo? And if I can't use the warne rings and bases which QD rings and bases will work with this scope?

Mark,

I use the Leupold QR rings and bases on my M-70 .375H&H and Leupold Vari-X III 2.5x-8x. I have no problems with eye relief or ring spacing, and the setup returns to zero everytime (with 1/2" @ 100yds.).

I believe warne makes an "extension" base that will bring the ring back enough to mount the scope.

call their CS line and ask.

I use the older Premier QR rings on premier bases (in fact I have a set for sale for a model 70 if interested). However, the problem is less the rings/bases than the scope. Get a straight tube scope like the 1.5-5x VX-III - it is a better match for an iron-sighted 375 anyway. Save your 2.5-8x for your light rifle (280 or whatever).

All my iron-sighted rifles wear QR rings/bases (Leupold work well but aren't as cool looking as Talleys or Warnes) and straight tubed scopes. I like low QR rings as well because all my iron-sighted rifles have a lowish comb to facilitate getting down on the irons.

I have the same scope mounted on a stainless Mod 70 375 H&H in Leupold standard bases and low rings. I the same Warne setup you describe that someone is buying from me through the classifieds. I'll give it check and let you know since I still have them.

I looked at my Warne bases/rings and it looks like you may just be able to mount the scope. It looks to be very close to the max ring spacing so that you will not be able to adjust at all for eye relief.

I have three Leupold scopes VXII 3x9, a VXIII 1.75 x 6, and an LPS 2.5 x 10. All are equiped with Leupold QR Rings.

These scopes are used on a M70 Safari Express 416 Rem Mag, and a M70 Classic 300 Win Mag. The bases from the Safari express are used on the Classic by using three existing holes and taping one new one. This allows all three scopes to drop into the bases on both rifles.

The 416 has been to Africa Twice, the mounts have functioned without problems, and I always have a spare.

Mark,
As I recall you may be able to turn one of the rings around and shorten the spacing..I think its the front ring...I never recommend Warnes on a dangerous game rifle.
