I've got my eye on a complete, all original Remington Model 30 in 30-06 that I would want to have made into a 416 Rigby. Does anyone make a drop box magazine for this action? Are there any gunsmiths who do feed and action work on Enfield type actions?

I know it is a little out of your neck of the woods, but the last time I was in Tip Burns shop in Canyon Lake Texas (830)935-3338 picking up some stuff, he was turning a Remington model 30 into a 416 taylor. It was looking mighty fine. I'm sure he could handle a Rigby. He can make a 500 Jeffery feed and if you read AR post very much that is next to impossible . 505ED DRSS Member

Jim Wisner built all of the sheet metal for my 510KX Model 30. The box will take a 4" long round, and three of the loaded rounds will fit and feed. The really cool thing, is that that box will also hold three 505 Gibbs loaded rounds, ditto for my 550 Gibbs wildcat. It is really great looking and working stuff. If you want a look PM me your Email and I'll send you some pictures. Rich DRSS Chehalis, WA.

Oregon45, You might give Greg Cooper at Lone Rock Arms in Glide, Oregon a call at (541) 496-3119. Glide is East of Roseburg. I don't know if he has done an Enfield in 416 but I do know that he has built a 458 and a 505 Gibbs on them. Having built three 416's on Enfield actions I can say that unless you'r in love with the action it would be cheaper to buy one than to build one. Good luck with your project.

+1 for Jim Wisner. He's done some other metal work for me years ago and I was very pleased with the quality of the ork and the turn time. He's in your area also. I've heard of Greg Cooper, and of that 505 Gibbs he did IIRC. IMHO, a gunsmith who can get the Gibbs to feed in a 14/17/30 properly can do just about anything. I meant to say that Wisner is in Chehalis, WA. Another superb gunsmith up in Chehalis is Steve Kostanich. Rich DRSS

I can't help but make comment on feeding "problems" with 500 Jeff. Pierre van der Walt wrote: "Feeding problems do not originate with cartridge design, but with sloppy workmanship" True today as the day he wrote it!

of course, you have to be Duane Wiebe to say that...and have HIS skills. There's another name to put on your possibles list. What are you up to these days? Rich DRSS

know what you mean. I'll be 58 next month, and I'm too young for retirement, too tired to have an affair, and too old for a paper route! Chowsing cows is about all I'm good for these days. regards, Rich DRSS
