http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976621842.htm How do you like the QD.mount system? They also make them in screwdown fixed version(for round recievers),with the ring integral to each base.

Essential points: 1. QUICK detachable/attachable system maintaining zero 2. Stays put under recoil 3. Low profile is desirable These magnum actions cost thousands so having screws between mount and double square bridge is LOCO.

They really botched it with the star-trek scope mount. If you're going to scope a 3K mauser action it deserves claw mounts.

The complete rifle doesn't do much for me and seems over-priced by a couple grand or more. With regard to the scope mounts, I personally like them. I'm a traditionalist and agree that claw mounts are a proper solution, but those Smithson integral mounts are functionally better than claw mounts. They are fast, secure and actually look good when you see them up close. Often, bolt-on claw mounts leave much to be desired asthetically; I think Smithson's mount and ring system is a work of art. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." I think that is the round (500 AHR) not the rifle. The action is Granite Arms and I think AHR is CZ exclusively. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

AHR will build a rifle based on a Granite Mountain action and by the looks of it that rifle was built by AHR. Of course, the cost of the rifle is about doubled by opting for the GM action. And that rifle has a lot of expensive extras. Still, I do agree it is overpriced by a substantial amount. I don't know for sure, but I doubt that the owner paid AHR very much more than $8,900 for that rifle when it was brand new. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

I didn't know. What gives it away as an AHR, the stock lines? "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

Triggertate, Ed was using the GMA action for awhile. I think he has since switched back tot eh CZ but he did do a number on the GMA. That alone will add 2500 bucks to the project. I just love the GMA actions for big bores. Sure they need some work and smoothing but they are a great strong place to start and at 3k not all that bad for what you get. Sure there are cheaper ways to go but I'm sold on them and the time saved is more time to go hunting or shooting. John

1.The rifle is brand new and unfired.(by me) 2.Built by AHR,action is Granite Mountain Arms. 3.500AHR caliber. 4.No one in this forum has seen the pics of this rifle,so a little slack as to its relative worth might be in order. 5.$8900 is an opener, subject to negotiation.

AHR has begun building ,500 AHR's on the GMA action as per my reccomendations.A GMA action alone is 3K. This thing will atbleast feed properly how many other .500;s will do that in reality. 0K seems a bit high but not really.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

Bob, Sorry about my pricing comment, but from what observed, Ed does not build best quality guns, but I can get a best quality rifle on az GMA from another maker for $10K. But in the end the market will decide the rifle's value and we could all be wrong.

500grains, I have three soon to be four from Ed that I love. As to best, well that is for each man to determine. Spend it if you got it and don't care if it's wasted. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Those are excellent actions and very expensive. My concern is using a scope on a 505 is just plain dangerous and not needed, I would put a Williams Guide Peep sight on it, God forbid an aluminum sight!!, but hey they don't make it in steel and its a compact little dandy of a ghost peep!!
