George - I suggest that you pre medicate with some Excedrin for the big loads! Sounds like good fun - KMule

I got to shoot my .600 on Sunday after the local USPSA match. To recap the last time, in June, I tried 160grs of H4350 for a 3 shot avg of 2159fps with a 900gr WW.

On Sunday, I had loaded 162.5grs and 165grs of H4350. Recoil with both of these loads is severe, to say the least! I got 2193fps avg(9610ft-lbs). with the 162.5gr load. The 165gr load gave me 2220fps(9848 ft-lbs of energy). This is with a 23" barrel. Both of these loads are compressed with unfired brass. Primers looked good and extraction was fine.

I'm going to try for 2240-2250fps(over 10,000 ft-lbs of energy). I have to, I have to try for 5 Tons! I am going to use once fired brass and use a drop tube and try to get 167.5grs in this case.

I'll post some pics of the finished rifle Monday night. I got some video of me shooting some water barrels. I was able to recover some perfectly expanded bullets. I didn't measure them yet but they are well over an inch in diameter!

I know I promised video to a few of you. I am going to dub all of the video from all the shooting and load testing fun to a VHS and then a friend is going to copy it to a DVD. Then we can set up a mail chain and send it around. If anyone wants to host it online we can do that too.

George,

I am glad to hear you survived! Those velocities you got are very close to what my software predicted. I for one am impressed.

How long does it take you to recover from the first shot to place an aimed second shot at those recoil levels?

Clown,
I haven't tried firing two aimed shots back to back yet. I suspect the time lag will be large.

I will be reducing the charge back to 160grs for the 2150 load after my quest for 10,000 ft-lbs. There is a BIG difference in that last 5 or so grains of powder in terms of felt recoil. 160grs is shootable.

Rob,
I wanted a more balanced rifle, but looking back we should have tried it at 26" just to see the velocity drop with this particular barrel, if nothing else. I don't really notice the torque, the gun drives straight back, then up, pretty fast. Maybe I'm just not seeing it. I'll have to have the video set up to catch it next time.

What's the word on the throating reamer? You did remember to order one, right? I want to try some of the solids.
