I wanted to share the final results of this unique build. DPCD is the master gunsmith for the barrel and action work. Started life as a stripped Siamese Mauser action I picked up on the cheap. Tom took on the challenge of trying to turn this into a 500 Smith and Wesson Mag bolt action rifle and I would call it a success. The gun is throwing 385gr Maker at 1825 fps with an 18" Douglas barrel. The theme for this gun as you can see was a safari classic look. The wood I finished and inlet/bed myself with tru oil on a fancy grade myrtle.

You did a great job on the stock and that Myrtle turned out a lot prettier than I thought it would!

Neat Siamese Mauser you have there. Been a fan of them for many years. Love the 500 Magnum cartridge. Richards is one of the very few places that does stocks for these actions.

My first Siamese was a 45-70 built by Shaw back in the 70’s. Tom built my last one about a year ago. Both sport 20” barrels and are parkerized with receiver sights.

Thanks, but I am nothing special. I do take on the odd projects though. Those cross bolts are just blued steel ones. The ones with the two holes in them from Brownells.

Amazing how much power that case puts out in a rifle. How hard was it to get to feed?
I brought home a siamese in 50-348. I have not checked feeding issues yet.

Feeding was a bit of an issue as opening the rails enough to feed reliably did present some issues with the follower sometimes popping up. Tom fixed that with a counterweight tab on it. I had to go to the 385gr maker bullets because they have a more pointed shape than most flat 500 sw bullets. The flat bullets would not cycle reliably up the feed ramp and get out of the rails at the right time

That would make a great deer rifle for those states that restrict you to straight wall cartridges in certain areas. Good for hogs as well. Looks like an all-around fun gun.

That's a wonderful build! Very nice job on the stock, too. You can still buy Oregon myrtle wood objects and lumber from small tourist shops and specialty mills along Oregon Coast Range backroads and on Highway 101.
