Can anyone recommend a good gunsmith in the Calgary area? I am looking at getting some work done on a BRNO 375. Thanks

BCJames,

Few choices in Calgary I'm afraid. I've had success with Dave (last name?) at Safari Gunsmith. Haven't talked to him in a couple of years, not sure he hasn't retired. I haven't had as much luck with Alterta Tactical. Nice honest guy, but light on gunsmithing skills.

If you can't find a guy out there, there is a gent in Saskatoon who does fine work on Brno's. Let me know if you need his address.

Your best bet for serious work would be Ralf Martini in Cranbrook.

I used D. Henry Gunmakers in Bentley when I was living in Calgary and was pleased.

Thanks for the sugestions, but after the first couple of unenthusiastic comments (I was hoping for a shop close by so I could drop by inperson) I packaged up my rifle and sent it off to Corlane's in Dawson Cr. I have had good success with them in the past and they have a pretty good rep in BC.

No harm intended here, but Corlanes does "good work" for the guys out there that dont know what good work is!

They have done some epic screw-ups on a few of my guns.

If I were you, I would ask them to return it and do one of 2 things. Do as Arctic says & send it to Ralph Martini, or eat the import/export costs & send it stateside to a "good 'smith". I would not send a DG rifle to anyone in Canada besides Martini.

I agree about 10K percent and my 40+ years of packing DGRs in BC-Alberta has shown me that GOOD gunsmithing in Canada is rare and Corelane's would never touch a rifle of mine.

Interesting. I have experience with 3 rifles that they have worked on (not DG) and all three came back shooters (that's not a very technical review, but its better than nothing. The work getting done is going to be pillar and glass bedding for the most part...and since some have suggested that I do the work myself, I'll assume that this doesn't qualify as "serious" work. We'll see how it goes.
