First, let me clearly state I have not seen one so I am asking those of you that own or have shot these.

I am interested in this model but the barrel looks to be a little on the whimpy side
( contour could be bigger ). Is this a result of bad photography or does the Winchester Model 70's have a heavier barrel?

Thoughts were a 416 or a 458 Lott.

Thanks for the input.

The barrel on my 416 does not seem too wimpy to me. Much bigger and it may as well be a tank.

My 458 Lott's barrel is plenty heavy.

Ditto to what z1r and Tembo said. I have the 550 Safari in both 375 H&H and 458 Win Mag. The barrels are plenty stout to say the least.

The barrels are fine......................same blanks used for .375 through to .458 which means your .375 H&H will be heavier than the .458. My lott is about perfect weight. At any rate the cz barrels are spot on and the .375 cz may be a tad to heavy in the barrel if anything.

Ja,
The .375 through .458 are all about 0.666" at the muzzle. They have a good stiff shank and the rear sight base is machined integral to the barrel as is the barrel recoil lug slotted abuttment contraption. nut

The .416 is perfect, and the other calibers on either side of this are O.K.

FWIW, I have a SigArms Magnum Mauser 98 in .450 Dakota, and it also measures 0.666" at the muzzle, which is also on a 25" barrel like the CZ's.

However, the Mauser has its rear sight and recoil lug on a sleeve that is soldered onto a step on the barrel, so it is well fitted but not integral as with the CZ.

Yes, the CZ barrels have some integral stuff on them. Great buy.

RIP,

Thanks, that was the number is was looking for. My old Winchester is right around .700 ish so the CZ contour is a little lighter. Basically the Winchester is a #5 contour, and the CZ is is #4 ( pretty close when comparing factory contours ).

Guess, I need to find one and take a hard look. Do you folks with the 416-458 bores have a #5 contour on these?
