Winchester chambers the 416 Rem in their M70 Safari Express model which is pretty much a base line model when it comes to bells and whistles plus the price is right. My question is why doesn't Remington offer their very "own" chambering in a base line model such as the BDL or something similar?? Why the heck do you have to dig deep for their "custom shop" rifle just to get the nice round? Makes no sense to me...

Most people prefer CRF (Winchester) vs. PF (Remington) for a dangerous game round.

Remington has a hard time making a decent heavy rifle. I played with a Remington Custom Shop 416 and it was a nasty gun to shoot. The stock design just didn't work for a 416. I shot it side by side with my M-70 and the difference was night and day.
So I guess the reason is that Remington 416 suck and don't sell well.................DJ

cwhitenton,
Welcome to AR wave
Two friends of mine have had Rem 416 mags. Neither would feed.
The last 5 Winchester 416's I looked at had crooked iron sights. The gun store had to send them back.
Two of my friends have 416 Blasers. They have not had any problems.
I had a custom 416 RM once, it would not eject, the case would hit the scope turret and stay in the ejection port.
If I was to buy a 416 RM today it would be a Blaser R 93 Safari. I have shot my friends and they work 100%.
If all of my 40+ rifles were not doubles I would have a Blaser for sure.
I have tried to get them to make me a 458 Win bbl. They will not, so I may get a 416 anyway.

Two other considerations:
I have had a Sako in 416 Rem Mag for 14 years with more than complete satisfaction. Balance, shootability, recoil attenuation, reliability, trigger, fit and finish have all been fine. My rifle shoots three shot cloverleafs with factory ammunition and my reloads.

ALF has posted pictures of the Sauer 202 in 416 Rem Mag. That rifle will be heavier than the Sako, but it is gorgeous, built like a bank vault, and quite accurate.

You would likely be absolutely delighted with either rifle.

The new Blaser synthetic "offroad" models have a "wundhammer swell" at the grip. That increases comfort, control and recoil absorption.

Welcome to AR. We individual posters may not always be right, but we are always definite.

It's simply this:.....THEY DID AND NO-ONE BOUGHT THEM. Remington simply isn't a manufacturer of DG rifles.....or so say the buying public. (many of us aren't sure that Winchester is either)

So to save face they offer it in the custom shop.

If Remington executives gave a shit they'd ask what does the customer want.....but they simply don't.

A few of all factory rifles need tweeking and some need fixing, but on the whole Winchesters have faired as well as any of them..so have Sakos, Remingtons, and the rest. I personally don't care for push feeds, but I know a lot of folks that don't mind them and some of them are PHs.

The Blaser looks like something from outer space IMO and if it don't look right it ain't right for me, and they fail also, check out Saeeds post on Blaser failure..they are just another factory rifle, sans class.

I've not had a problem of any kind with several new Winchesters and Remingtons in the last couple years, but we did have a hunter who's Blaser at what three times the price wouldn't work because of the dust! Blaser acknowledged that there was a problem with dust, but refused to admit that it was a problem with the gun, it was a problem with the hunter not carrying a can of dry compressed air to blow out the action periodically. Gee, for what they cost, you would think they would supply a can of dry compressed air and a belt pouch to carry it in!

The problem with Blaser is that they buck convention and they are bucking ugly IMO.
