I need some info on primers for the 375 416 and lott. Going thru my limited libray I noticed an old hanloader were the author used rem mag primers and had not trouble. I also noticed that the a square manual show how much les presure the same rem primer gives when used in the 7 rem mag. I have also read in an old handloader that the federal fact. load in 416 rigby used a fact. 216 primer not for sale to us civies.

Youre thoughts on this?

The old Remington primers had a hard cup and sometimes would not dent enough to go off.

Federal's F215 or GM215M are certainly all you need for the .416 Rigby.

The only difference between those two Federal primers is the pay-grade of the inspectors looking at the primers before they are packaged.

I knew that the F216 was used in the 470 Nitro Express loaded by Federal. Not the .416 Rigby.

Federal "Safari" ammo is nothing special. You can do much better loading your own, with F215 or GM215M primers from Federal.

Ever since Federal primers became scarce, I've been using the Remington Large Rifle Magnum primers in all of my big bore and magnum loads and have experienced no problems so far.

Ditto, I bought 1K 2yrs ago & use them in my 404jeffery w/ great success. Shooting them interchangabely w/ the F215M, I see little to no diff. in vel. or accuracy.

For the big bores there is the Fed 215 and then there is the Fed 215...

Maybe some day if enough folks piss and moan to Fed bean counters they will succomb to the pressure of a demanding public on the 216 primers..

Ray, I was refering to the 215M or magnum match primer. The RP9 1/2M is very uniform, as good as the Fed. in my 404j & 7mmDakota.

Yesterday I tried to buy Federal GM215M primers, my local merchant just laughed and said he's orders them from his supplier but has not seen any arrive in a year.
I asked which primer he has no trouble getting Winchester was his answer.
So I stocked up on Winchester WLR and WLRM primers.
I will compare their performance with my last 2 boxes of GM215M in my 375H&H.

Nothing wrong with Winchester primers...they are very consistant in my loadings.

Last week, I ordered Fed 215 primers from Cabela's for in store pickup and I got them today. (If you do direct delivery to your address, you have to pay shipping plus the haz-mat fee of $20.00). I tried to get the GM 215 but they are not available. You can check their website to see what they have in stock. They were $31.99 per thousand.

Cabela's had Large Rifle 210 in Gold Match on the shelf. I really prefer the Fed Gold Match but for the last couple of years I have used whatever was available. I have also gotten along well with Remington. What ever you find, buy while you can. I suspect that the supply will continue to be irregular.
