Well, after running off at the mouth about .458s, I went back to Sportsman's Warehouse and carefully compared the two CZ 550 Safaris they had in stock. The .458 handled slightly better, but the wood really looked questionable to me. Then I got to thinking about the versatility of the .375 with everything from light X bullets to 350-grain Woodleighs. Practicality led me to buy the .375. I know the CZ 550 in this caliber seems a bit ungainly, but even so, the damned thing comes up like a shotgun (yes,a heavy shotgun) to my eye. The .375 isn't a real big bore, but it is close enough for my purposes. So I have cases and some 350-grain Woodleigh PPs on the way from Buzz down at Huntingtons, and will have some handloads ready to go for the weekend. (And now I still have an excuse for a bigger bore if Jeffe ever browbeats Remington into selling that Spartan .45-70 double ...) Bill A friend of mine has a CZ in 375 H&H. I agree they do handle well. His shoots very acurately even out at 300 yards. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Bill, hope your 375 shoots as good as mine. I load 71 RX15 with 300 NF and it will shoot one ragged hole with the softs, fps and cp. 2600 fps+ It really started shooting when I got the Brockman stock

Everyone should own a 375H&H, good choice. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. He looks like you owe him money." - Robert Ruark, Horn of the Hunter, 1953 NRA Life, SAF Life, CRPA Life, DRSS lite

If you're like the rest of us you will have a four five eight soon enough as well. Happy shooting. I've found that 300 grainers work great on big feral pigs in my .375 CZ. 200-235ish bullets are not that much overkill for deer with proper bullet choice either. For what it's worth, I like 300 grain A-Frames for big thin skinned stuff and 200 grain FN Pro-Hunter Sierras for littler things. They were designed for the .375 Win but they work just fine in .375 H&H at around 24-2600fps for smaller game or plinking. 300 grain Swift A-Frame from a CZ550 American blasted through the boiler room of this beast at 100. Never took another step in it's life after it hit. Hope you have a blast of a thanksgiving.

Bill, Congrats on your new rifle!! It's very hard to go wrong by choosing a .375 H&H! Class, nostalgia, history, a proven track record, versatility, and effectiveness all in one cartridge. Cheers! -Bob F.
