I have a lightweight sporter in '06 I'm thinking of rebarreling to 375 Taylor.
Other than opening up the boltface, anyone know if this rifle can hold up to the increase in recoil?
Do I need crossbolts, or recoil lugs?
Any other forseeable problems?

YG,
Sounds like a fun project. The rebore might be an issue, as the 30-06 barrels on some m70s are pretty thin. I would want the end of mine to be AT LEAST .775 (.200 barrel left) although savage did some barrels with .125" clearance.
I would suggest that you try and find a take off m70 375 HH, and try that.

if you stay with 375chatam/talor, you should NOT need an overly beefy stock rework, but you can easily get away with a crossbolt, steel bedding the front of the action, making, AT LEAST .065 clearence off the rear of the action (and anything that can PUSH backwards) due to the "axe" or WEDGE action of the recoil.

You'll find, at max vels, the 375 c/t very easy to shoot, and can match 375 classic vels easily.

you will have issues with
1: feeding
2: bolt face
3: magizine

none of which are tough, but can be a hassle

best of luck

The expense of a rebore is not cost effective unless one is restoring a unique barrel contour. Plus you need barrel weight in the big bores to handle recoil and muzzle rise. A big mistake by many is making a big bore rifle too muzzle light. Put on a quality barrel and never look back. No. 5 minimum contour, maybe a no. 6 depending on the weight and barrel length one desires.

I'd also go with a 375 H&H as opposed to the Wildcat round, that offers nothing...

I happen to have a 375 pre 64 Win. barrel for sale if you or anyone is interrested..It is a take off barrel threaded for a KDF...has the orignal front sight. It is the rare stright taper....$100. plus $10.00 ship..

As to re-bore?? I wouldn't, I would just use the above barrel and open the action and bolt face up and that is a snap..OR I would just buy a new barrel and put that one on it and sell the old 06 barrel for $50.00 or so....Converting to a 375 Chatfield-Taylor is just as much work as converting to a 375 H&H and the H&H is the better cartridge IMO....

Not sure what you mean by making .065 clearance. You mean maintain recoil on crossbolt and away from stock?

What sort of feeding issues?
w/o filler, my mag measures 3.642"
The rails measure .565"
The ejector stands about .331" top to bottom.

The first two seem to be within H&H range. But I have heard of trouble with H&H and standard-length actions, hence the appeal of 358 Norma and 375 C-T.
I know Winchester stocks a "magnum" ejector, don't know how different/necessary that is.
It's a $5 part, anyway.

Not sure exactly which part is the "bolt sleeve" but USRA stocks these also as aftermarket.
Is that the body of the bolt? Can I just slide my parts into/around that and have a mag bolt?

Does Winchester have a "magnum-length action" or do they just stick a filler in the mag and call it standard-length?
Besides the shortened Win Mags, they only chamber in 7mm STW, 375 H&H, and 416 Rem Mag, all of which are based on H&H's 2.85" case.

If this isn't a problem, I may nave to by the takeoff bbl.

If you just want something a little more powerful than the 06, you can rechamber to 300 win Mag, and open the boltface to mag dimentions. If you want to retain the old barrel and still want to re-bore about the best you will do is re-bore to .35 caliber, and chamber for 35 Whelen, or up to .366 and chamber for 9.3X64! The take off Ray has would make you a nice rifle, with a REAL Mod 70 barrel, and a little magazine work, and a bolt face opening! Any way you go it will be a labor of love, ENJOY! [Cool]
