I looks like the scope mts. are not all the way to the stop on the front and stick into the loading area in the back. Is this correct and do you have any scope movement when you shoot it? Are you planning on a longer scope?

I have a friend that is having a .585 made, he thinks so anyway. It's been 3 years so far and the over/under on the finish time is that the gunsmith will die before the rifle will be finished. [Big Grin]

Mickey,

I see what you mean, I put the scope on my self but I did not want to get to close to the front of the obejective bell for fear of crushing the lens in the front (do you think I should have had the mount further forward ??). The mounts at the front are right on the edge of the slots at the back.

Rob I have not fired the 750's yet I only just received the rifle in time for my last hunting trip to work up loads with the 650 black powder woodleigh. My mate fired a handful of 750's with break on through his and said while it kicked more it was not so much worse than the 650's.

Gentlemen the effct this thing has on thin skinned game is like nothing I have ever seen before, I have never heard a whop when the bullet hits the target like this !!

I have not had any scope movement yet after 36 shots and neither has my mate and I think he has shot about 40 through his as well.

I have no plans to use another scope this one is going well, I like the 2.5x leupolds so much that the original one that was meant for my .585 finished up on my 45/70.

OK you need something bigger than this [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

If any of you have wanted a .585 there a lot of fun so go ahead is my advice. If I had not met you bunch of crazy bastards I would not have one either [Big Grin]

Thanks for the kind comments.

PC,
What a great looking rig!!! Posting any pics of it and a 200kg pig ??!?!?!

But, I've gotta say, with a HUGE grin on my face, that the remington sights on that barrel look like one of those IMPROBABLE netsuke of a tiny woman on a huge, hmm, BARREL. LMFAO!!!

Mate, your rifle just smacks of whammperstomper!!

Jeffo I know the rem sights are shit, but hey I am not that dissapointed with them, there only for back up should the scope fail and down the track when I am more cased up I will put something more appropriate on.

No pigs with it yet mate !! but I have shot a few grass hoppers [Wink]

Mike,

to date it is the most emphatic killer I have ever seen. I doubt much if the 650's are really opening up, I think the energy of the projectile just ruptures them open, wide open. It does knock them down !! You can see them bouncing in the dust after going through them for about 1km.

My father is 65 and he said he could tell it had power just from the way the cabin of his ute felt with the muzzle blast (we were shooting them over the top of his Rodeo ute)

PC,

I think what happens with those big blunt bullets is that they at least flatten at the point and then maintain their velocity through the animals.

Mike the blunt/round nose bullets defintely kill heaps better than pointed 30/06 spitzer style bullets in my experience. When I first got a 45/70 I was astounded at the results of that.

I just wonder weather really big guns say from the .416 Rigby up actually have that much energy they cause tissue/fluid disruption beyond the dimensions of the animal ??

PC...!

What animal have you shoot with your .585 Nyati?? And what weight does the animal have. So you have knocked down them with the 650 grainer. Wait to you use the Woodleigh 750 grainer at 2500 fps... [Smile] Does the 650:s expand at all? and to what velocity have you load them? Oh I forget one question. How big is the wound channel in the game that you have shoot.???

OK private e-mail me.

There is not a wound channel as such as they are to small, they just burst open, I can not say if the bullets are expanding I doubt it, I guess the energy is just causing tissue disruption beyond the dimensions of the animal thus they rupture. In all honesty OK the 750's would probably not open up as much as I am using the 650 gr bullets designed for black powder velocity with expansion on smaller game being the objective. I am yet to bag some pigs with it. I only just missed a fox that we had whistled in I should not have muffed that shot really (I may have flinched [Wink] )
