Which CZ rifle stock in 458 Lott would give the more controlled felt recoil? The hump styled stock or the american styled straight stock?

For me the straight stocks seem to tame the recoil better, and have less muzzle jump.

Others swear by the hogs.

Who do you believe? Smiler

I would have to put my vote in for the hogback.

IMO the recoil of my 375 with the hogback is tamer than my 300 win mag. although the win mag is mauser in an american styled stock and not a CZ with an american stock.

someone had to do it Will.

Though some cookie cutter stocks may fit many to a certain degree, we are all different w/ different likes and have different perceptions of recoil.

I like the European "Lux" stock for use with the CZ big bore using the low factory express or fixed sights. The quality of wood and inletting are usually decent and the stock handles and shoulders well. As far as recoil, this style of stock tends to distribute the recoil between going straight back and muzzle rising up. To me it tends to roll in recoil like the hog back grips on a Colt 45 SAA does in your hand. It may appear to have increased muzzle rise but it is easy to quickly get back on target. Flip side of this style stock on the CZ is using a scope. One of my dislikes is the need for a high scope mount to clear the bolt. Europeans use a different style of hold to overcome this which I dislike. Unless you have a long skinny face you may need to stock crawl to overcome the extra height and many dislike this.

The American style stock that CZ-USA sticks on is no good for me. I find it to be blocky and poorly shaped. Some have used it as a starting point to reshape, rechecker and refinish with good results. This style of stock has a tendency to drive the recoil straight back w/ less muzzle flip. You may find this stock a better choice w/ the high CZ scope mounting.

I would suggest that if you dislike the "Lux" style to purchase yourself a Brockman laminate. You would probably find this stock to be far superior to anything available from CZ. It is not that expensive and would be a big improvement.

I have had the same results.

I have a Lux in 458 WM and love it.It fits me like a glove and points like a nice quail gun. I have shot both the American and Lux stock types side by side (both in 458 WM). The Lux seemed to have less perceived recoil and the American stock style seemed like a club, just didn't fit or handle well at all. Of course, all this is very subjective, try shooting different caliber/stock combos to see for yourself.

I have two CZ's, one in 375 with the humpback stock, and the other a 458 Lott with the straight american stock. The 375 is a delight to shoot, and almost anyone can shoot it well. I have taken 12 African animals including two buffalo with it and the recoil isn't bad at all. I have yet to hunt with the Lott. However, I have shot it quite a bit. I started with a few 458 Win Mag rounds, and then moved up to the full power 500 gr loads. With the straight stock, I really can't tell much difference between the 458 Win Mag rounds, and the Lott rounds. The recoil is substantial, but once I became acclimated to it I was shooting the rifle as well as my 375. My Lott was customized by Roger Farrel and was a gift from JudgeG. It weighs about 9.5 pound which is a bit light for that caliber from what I have read. I am 5'11" tall and weigh about 200 pounds and handle the recoil just fine now. I am taking the Lott to Tanzania in September for it's christening hunt in Africa, and plan on taking some wild hogs here in Georgia over Christmas with it.
