ShortandFat600 OverKill in Oz
Gents
The rifle is slowly getting together, just a few photo's of where it's up to.
The whole thing has been one big nightmare, I could write a book on the things I have had to do to get to this stage. Permits and attourney general approvals....you name it
Here's some of the bits and pieces, the end product isn't too far away now
Action I used is a well kept and tidy P14, I had a nice M17 but the darm thing had a hole tapped thru the top bolt recoil lug so we chose not to use it.
The head space gauge must be wrong, my gunsmith says it is 17 to 20 thou too big, so he has head spaced on the cases I got off Wayne at AHR.
My Gunsmith has got the action opened up, it just need some fine tuning and a polish and the bolt face opened and holding the cases no problems, however now it won't let them go, it's too good a fit holding on very tight. The extractor spring has been modified slightly and needs a polish
The Muzzle brake needs a little tidying up and the bore of it cleaned up but it fits nicely
Bolt handle upgrade next, barrel recoil lug to be added, rear peep on the action and a standard NECG front sight. No scope mounts for this baby
The single stack magazine box below just needs the clip springs tig welded to it, but I think I will make another one a bit longer here's a picture of the one I have already made, I was pleased with it, it came up well. It's a 3 piece, 2 sides and a rear plate mig'd together
Whole gun will get a sandblast and matt blued, finished off with a cross bolted and bedded black pepper laminate stock that Jeffe is making me....... it won't be girly pretty but it will look tuff and ruggard
Can't wait, will keep you guys up to date. So many people to thank on here, I'll get around to it shortly when it's finished
regards
S&F

Hey Paz,
I think S&F still wants us to sight the 600OK for him. After having a good look at it ... I might pass it to you.

She's certainly impressive in the metal ... and I'm still not 100% certain why gunsmiths working on big bores are always smiling! Small bore 'smiths always seem to frown.

Cheers...

RobgunbuilderThat break looks like one of John McMorrows, It works very well, probably will reduce felt recoil by 40% or better.-Rob

it is one of Johns, he also sold me one of his barrels but sadly things have really tightened up in the US and they would not allow a 620 barrel out of the states. It worked out because Wayne from AHR found a buyer for it
I ended up getting a 600 nitro barrel out of Europe, it cost a lot more than the original
