Got my M70 416 REM MAG back from Dave Christman last week. He installed a Shilen barrel, banded front sight, Single rear sight, and freshened up factory stock. Enjoy!

Nice Smiler

Fits somewhere in between safe queen and rugged beast.

How about a few more details: is the grip cap stainless? How heavy is this beauty?

I bought the rifle from Mark Young on AR just before Winchester anounced the shutdown. It began life as a Win Custom shop rifle that had been "Africanized" (action slicked, tuned etc etc)by the previous owners gunsmith. The only thing wrong was the front sight was indexed slightly to the left. This kinda thing messes with my head so I took it to Dave Christman. Before I left Daves I had gone from just reindexing the sight to installing a new barrel finished at 22.5" (#6 contour), sight change and refresh the stock with length of pull stretched to 14.25". The stainless grip cap is from the custom shop. The action from day one has always been very slick with perfect feeding and extraction with good contact on the locking lugs. Safety had been tuned as well by previous owner so I think daves work was minimum on the action. I will probably get bashed for this but I had the trigger set at 2.5#. Yesterday weather was bad all day so I started a barrel breakin from the hanger. I was unable to set up a target, just shoot out across the airport and clean. I had some swift 400's loaded from before the makeover so this will be a good way to pull the bullets. I have a stash of Northfork softs that are dedicated just for this rifle and a little plains game hunt in Nov! Oh, and weight is 8.5# and balances very well!

Mississippian ----- WOW, a great looking rifle indeed. I must admit my reason for admiring your rifle is that I have it's twin in .358 STA, also from the Winchester Custom Shop. I call mine "Big Red" for obvious reasons. From Alaska to Africa to Canada, it has never let me down. I hope yours treats you as well as mine has me. Good shooting.

Beautiful rifle. I'm also busy with a 416 project. What is the diameter of your barrel at the muzzle?

No thanks, I've already got one. Exactly the way it came from the custom shop suits me fine.

It is a Shilen Match grade barrel(the Tim Allen in me made me pay an extra 40 bucks so I could say I have a "Match" barrel!Smiler)#6 contour finished at 22" (I thought 22.5") with a Muzzle Diameter of .7500" exactly. Really balances well! Good luck with your project!

onefunzr2, Thats what mine looked like minus the barrel band. Nice!
