Shot my 375 Ruger for the first time yesterday. Was developing some loads for a friends 270 WSM and shot the 375R during "cooling" breaks.

Chronied a few 270gr Hornady factory loads. Average velocity was 2749 fps for 6 shots. A little lower than I expected for a 23" barrel.

Also chronied some 300gr RN factory loads. Average velocity was 2620 fps for 3 shots. Also a little lower than expected.

The low velocity could be my chrony...although the velocities I was getting from the other rifles were close to expected. It was overcast and fairly cool (about 60deg F), but that shouldn't make much difference.

The first 3 shot group with the 270gr load was decent...1.13" at 100yds. Didn't shoot anything else for groups.

Recoil was good...the LOP is a little short for me though. Will have to add a spacer and a thicker pad, or use a slip on like RIP.

Had trouble with extraction on the first few rounds. Noticed right away that the brass was really scratched up. Obviously the chamber is rough. Asked my 'smith about it and showed him the brass -- he figures Ruger shot a proof load without cleaning all the sandblasting grit out first. Figures I should be able to polish it up with a brush and some steel wool. I'll give it a try in the next day or so.

Overall I was pretty pleased. I got as good or better velocities than I ever did with my 375 H&H, the rifle handles and shoots well, and the rough chamber should be a simple enough fix.

I have some 270gr TSX's on hand, as well as some left-over 265gr GSC HV's that I am itching to try in this rifle (12" twist Smiler ). Will load some of them up next and report back. Big Grin

Cheers,
Canuck

My African scratched the brass and balked a little on feeding the 300-gr RNSP's, fed the pointy 270-grainers well, but still scratched the brass.

The fix for this was just a little chamfer and polishing of the chamber mouth entrance edge.

The Alaskan that was made later did not suffer from this, but fed smoothly and did not scratch brass.

I will be interested to record your reloading results for my use ... I have been too distracted by wildcats to reload for the .375 Ruger while I have factory ammo to burn.
