Since it's big bore section, Al Bundy would say, " BIG'UNS."

Thanks for the info about Dangerous Game Hunting magazine. It sounds interesting, and it also sounds like they could use some additional subscribers.

Do you have any opinions on African Outfitter magazine:

I don't subscribe to it but have acquired quite a few issues during trips to Africa, and it seems that they often have articles on big bores.

I think the African Outfitter is a pretty decent magazine as well. Have not seen enough of it, but I would pick it up and take a look anyway.

Here is what I don't care for. Now, some people this is great, but not my cup of tea is all. In one of the recent big time, oh hell go ahead and say it, SCI. I rarely even take the plastic cover off any more, it has been known that I might have 6-7 issues just under my desk that have not been unwrapped. Why? This is why!

I cracked the most recent issue, I think it is recent? Mostly because of this thread. There is some chap in there that went on a 21 day safari in Tanzania. Shot everything on the planet I recall, did not really read it, just skimmed. At one point he mentioned putting a Swift A frame through something! Further in the article he mentioned the number "416", but no more. Never mentioned his rifle that I saw, nor the cartridge, just a caliber and Swift A Frame. That's it. That's all the info I could gather on anything that might have interest to me. I don't care that he shot the biggest elephant in the world, or the biggest buffalo, or how much it measured, or how much it weighed, I don't even care whether he had a good time or a bad time or don't give a crap about any of that. I want to hear rifle, bullet, cartridge, tech aspects of what he was doing.

That's why I rarely ever crack one of those open. I have even bored myself with the nice photos and such!

But, you know that is me. Maybe not the fault of the magazine or the article or the author in particular, that's just what I care about. And I would not give you 2 nickels for the entire 12 issues with those sort of articles in it.

Michael

Yep, pet peeve of mine too, the lack of firearm-related information in the rags that purport to be covering hunting with firearms ... Roll Eyes

I pick up and read every gun rag I can get my hands on. There are no words to express my excitement as I eagerly await the latest article to pit the .375 against the .416. Nor can I begin to describe the satisfaction I feel upon learning about the newest and shortest magnums and how they will make every pre-WWII cartridge obsolete. I constantly read about plains rifles, mountain rifles, bean-field rifles, timber rifles, cross-canyon rifles, and swamp rifles so I know which of my rifles have lost their usefulness for a particular task and which new rifles to replace them with.

If it wasn't for a regular diet of gun writer's wisdom how could I intelligently ponder wood versus plastic, velocity versus mass, bonded versus monolithic, blued versus coated, or just where to mount my scope? If I hadn't kept up with gun articles how would I have known about all twenty-eight versions of Remington's model 700 and the subtle yet fundamental differences that make each one unique? How would I have known elk have grown immune to the effects of the .30-06 and .358 Win and can now only be killed with the 300 RUM and 376 Steyr? How would I have learned that ten different companies fixed the deficient 98 Mauser by cloning it and adding a copy of a Winchester safety?

So, to make sure that I stay abreast of all things of a ballistic and hunting nature, I indulge myself with all available gun magazines - even though they may get a little repetitious.

I subscribe to Most of the hunting/shooting magazines but am ready to let some of them lapse. Same old Blah, blah, blah. the guys that get regularly published are running out of words that they haven't used. I am addicted to hunting Dangerous Game and will contact the Dimechbros. website and see about a subscription.
