I am a pre-64 kindof guy. I do like the classic Mausers also. I have been into the Winchesters for years and I think I got interested in Mausers way too late to take advantage of the good buys that were once there. It seems it is easier to work on the Winchester for standard calibers. The older I get the moore I like the exotic stuff. square shooter

I've heard conflicting stories from jeff at MRC on the PH action, I had orginally heard they didn't meet the 400 order quota, then I heard the otherwise shortly after... I hope they come out soon because it looks to be a nice action. I may purchase one myself down the road. I doubt anyone can give a specific date.

I think the real reason to do a 404 Jeffery is that one can safely load that round to what ever velocity the shoulder can stand and still have an effective round and all at less pressure than the 416 Rem. Mag. It speaks to tradition the same way that double rifles talk. Once you have bitten the sweet fruit of English calibers, the rest pale by comparison. I have numerous 404's. Two on magnum Mauser actions, three on pre-64 long magnum actions, a G&H on a FN long magnum action, and one comming on a converted 98. They all feed and shoot well. They each have their own pecularaties and issues that will be addressed by the gun maker. They will all get the job done. square shooter

lb404, I've got a similar .404J "in the oven" on a '35 Chilean "Mauser" bannered Oberndorf action. Waiting for the correct bottom metal at the moment but certainly in no hurry. Here's the old picture of it that I love to look at .404J on '35 Chilean Got a few more goodies for it too - cocking piece sight, NECG 3 leaf express site, Canjar trigger. Would love to see yours when you get it... Jeff Pfeifer
