OK, looking at a BIIIG bore project (we have our .510 up and going) and ran into an interesting challenge: Other than Woodleigh, we found no reasonable supply of bullets LARGER than 0.510. Now, I know the 585, 577, 600 and 700 are out there, and I would hope to find some similar to the GS Custom ... anyone have any good pointers, references, suggestions?
Best I can tell, GS Custom does not have them, Barnes only has the RN Solid in 585 and 620 ...
Thanks!

The problem is that to be legal for bullet manufacturing you need a manufacturers license from BATFE. For 50 cal and under it's $300/3 years. For over 50 it's $3000/3 years. I know, I've got both and had to go through the process. It's a manufacturers license for destructive devices.
Marty, are these for use in AR-15 or AR-10s, or bolt guns? If for a non gas operated firearm, NEI makes molds for almost anything you want and if cast hard and heat treated, would stand up to most any game on earth.

Well, the AR-15 cannot accept an object much larger than 0.55" through the barrel extension, and for the AR-10, 0.66 is pushing the limit. This is for another, MUCH larger project. I realize that this falls under DD regulations, but the host weapon is already a DD .... so that is a moot issue. I also realize the bullet maker requires BATFE DD licensing, hence looking at those that already have bullets > 0.510"
I would prefer a bullet in the 0.620 or 0.70 version with a high BC, reminiscent of the AMAX ..... we're looking to reach out and touch ....
Oh, and it is gas operated semi auto, so jacketed or solid brass would be the way to go ...

Oh, this is most definitely out of the realm of autoloaders that I have worked with. Just don't tell James at K's about it or he will have you building him one. From the sounds of this beast, lead won't cut the mustard not only it being an autoloader but also due to shape. I have talked to BTB about lead bullets for my .50 BMG with a high BC shape, and he said it was very difficult to get lead to flow in the shape needed and rejection rate would be very high. Just a thought, have you considered turning them from steel as a bore rider with a copper band to take the rifling? I had a friend years ago who was making rounds for his 40mm Bofers cannon and that was what he did. Worked OK for demonstration rounds but being it was a cannon, I never heard of any accuracy tests being done. I do recall reading of mild steel bullets being used in the .50 BMG for long range target shooting, but the details of them escape me. It might be worth a letter to the FCSA about mild steel projectiles and who made them, maybe?
Just set up and build your own using the little groove design that keeps pressure down on solids, that fritz454 made. And then make the pointed shape you need...Ed
