"I was asked what the big secret is, here it is. In a few months we will have barrels for the .408 CheyTac cartridge for use in the Ferret50. We will be making uppers in .408 CheyTac as well as the stuff needed to convert exsisting Ferrets to .408. Lost River Ballistics has the ammo available now."

A switch barrel upper in .50 BMG & .408 CheyTac (or possibly many other big bore calibers) is an interesting thought. The uppers can be either RIGHT or LEFT HANDED. I've been talking with Dave for a few months about this, but was waiting for him to break the news. He also makes custom lathe turned bullets in ANY caliber, in ANY style, and in ANY material.

BMG,
Your quote is backwards. BF said "Those who choose to sacrifice Freedom in order to gain Security shall not have, nor do they deserve, either one" Indicating that the idea of trading freedom for security is wrong. BF supported individual freedoms over everything else.

Sounds to me like it's an upper for a Ferret...NOT an AR!!!

Jeffeosso,
So noted & changed.

GonHuntin,
It replaces the .223 upper on an AR-15/16 with a single shot bolt action upper in 50 BMG, .408 CheyTac, and possibly other calibers. It's not 'sharks with fricken laser beams attatched to their foreheads' or anything [Wink]

My mistake......brain fart I suppose....I am familiar with the Ferret 50.....use to read biggerhammer every day. I'm not sure why I was thinking the Ferret used a different lower??? I guess I was thinking Serbu for some strange reason???

Back to my cave........

BMG,
BF was a childhood hero of mine, and thanks. I remember reading that at 14, and being COMPLETLY blown away by the concept. He was a pretty radical thinker, in his day.. and in our day (not totally joking) a thinker is a pretty radical thing.

Does a regular AR lower stand up to the pounding of a .50BMG upper?

My first thought when I ran across adds for those was that .50BMG was a little out of spec for an AR lower.

The first BMG I ever owned was an upper. I had it on a Bushmaster lower and fired well over 1000rds with it. The lower came out no worse for the ware.
The brakes eat up a huge portion of the recoil and it was pleasant to shoot, which I did often. It's still the most economical way to get into BMG shooting.

BMG et al:

I guess I never thought about this stuff but are you guys talking about the .50BMG 750 Gr. at 2900? I have a friend who has a LARS single shot, and while it is no worse than a 12 GA. it does weigh around 25 lbs.

How much do these guns you are talking about weigh and what is recoil like? Thanks for explaining to a ignoramous but it does sound interesting.
