Ladies and Gentlemen,

It has taken about 80 rounds, but I think my Douglas Premium barrel on my Biesen .375 H&H (Pre-64 M70) is broken in. Shooting Remington Safari Grade factory ammo (300 gr. Swift A-frame).

Terry,

I think you are right!

I know of three .375 H&Hs that will shoot this factory load into a half-inch group at 100 yards. One of my friends is irritated because he can't find a handload that does as well.

Time to go hunting. [Wink]

Please carefully pack that rifle up and send it to me! I can see that it needs "adjusting"! [Wink]

I have a backlog of work so it will be a while before I can get it back to you. Best I can guarentee is after my next safari! [Eek!]

Rusty,

Please provide your address and I will send "the twins" [.375 H&H and .416 Rem Mag] to you when I return from Tanzania in mid-September. These rifles are made to be hunted, it would be a shame for them to set in the safe until I can save enough money for the next safari. [Wink]

Dang,
Stop it! Those are two gorgeous pieces of wood! The only nice piece of wood I have (old Bishop stock) is on my 300 Apex.

Terry,
I have found that Remington factory ammo with the 300 grain Swift A-Frame to be accurate too. It chronographed 2473 fps average for 7 shots from a 24" Winchester factory stainless barrel. The drop at 300 yards was 11 inches when I sighted in 3 inches high at 100 yards. It was putting 3 shots into three inches at 300 yards from my factory rifle. These groups were spread laterally by wind variance. At 100 yards, 3 shots would go into 3/4" routinely. My handloads might be only about 60 fps faster, but no more accurate, in my "beater" rifle. Remington made good ammo in the lot I sampled.

But, is this the stuff that some others have found some hot loads in? Canuck, was that you?

So, Terry, how about trying some Reloder 15 or your own recipe that you can be totally sure of? The package is not complete until you tell us of this outcome. You may be shooting one hole groups with that. If you don't have time to do that before your next safari, you must do it later, and tell us about it.

You have an outstanding two rifle battery for Africa, which manifests beauty, accuracy, and a functional redundancy for backup, should the unthinkable ever happen and one of those masterpieces get put out of action. Hey, they have great resale value and the less desirable loaner appeal too, obviously. [Smile] You sure are magnanimous!

A 375 H&H and a 416 make good sense as a combo. You don't need anymore rifles. But don't let that stop you
