A close friend picked up one of the Rossi 45-70 Rio Grande rifle just after the beginning of the year[2013]Really NEAT! Light and quick pointing. Only thing! It would not feed even one magazine without jamming and requiring using a tool of some kind to get it cleared. He called Rossi Service from my shop to get some help. We were #28 at 0800 pacific and # 28 five hours later. We asked for a call back and NADA! To make a long story short~~~ The P.O.S. has been back to the "service center" [joke] in Florida twice and was returned after declaring it working great [with two different brands of ammo]and it still will not work. We tried to get a refund from Rossi/Braztech and they told us to get screwed. Contactiong the wholesaler we were told they only sell the $#$%^% junk and do not refund as that is up to the Rossi turds. The rifle now is basically a hood ornament and I just wanted to alert potential buyers to pay the extra and go Marlin or?? Not worth the pain and suffering to try and deal with the worthless bastards.
Aloha, Mark

"Last of the Bohicans, Not!"
That is the new sales motto for Rossi, where they used to just say "A sucker is born every minute."
Got me worried now. I might have to go check my "Ranch Hand" mare's laigs to see if they will feed.

I hear the cheap and easy availability of Rossi Ranch Hands has spawned a new category of cowboy action shooting.
It is called the "Bounty Hunter Mare's Laig" event.
Audiences have to sit a hundred yards farther back than they do for the other events.

I had one of the 480 ruger stainless and it shot like complete crap and was very rough feeding and would bend some cartidges. they basically told me it was my problem. Never buying from them again unless it's for an inlaw.

Had a Rossi Lever gun in 44 years ago.

Clunky and hard to feed. Hardly used it
and ended up selling it.

Funny thing is~~~~~~ I have had a Rossi in 357 mag for years. The barrel got shot out early on so I got a McGowen CM barrel and rebarreled it with a GOOD barrel [not to say the original didn`t shoot ok]I rockwelled the old barrel and it was 29! Small wonder it shot out in 500 rounds. The feeding was/is good. Nice truck gun for these little blacktails around here. But the new ones? No ##$%$%%ing way! at least not the Rio Grandes! The belong on the south side of the above river.

I have a rossi circuit judge, one of those revolving rifles in 45LC/410ga. Bought as a gimmicky fun gun, but mechanically it works fine.

Got a Rossi 92-alike in 45LC and it works and shoots fine. Bought it last year.

Had to get the mag open when a "friend" loaded it with his handloads that were so long they'd never have fed in any other lever action.

I admit I've had a time or two when it hasn't fed, but that was me short stroking the lever (I'm not really a L/A guy - I just shoot Cowboy every now and then).

Little bit rougher than the Marlin I was looking at that was for sale, then wasn't, then was again and then wasn't - and then got offered again after I bought the Rossi.

Maybe I'm just lucky ....

I've got a Rossi 92 in 45 Colt. The only thing I did to it is fire lap the barrel since I was shooting cast bullets exclusively.
I've not had a single problem.
Forgot I pulled the rear site off and replaced with a Smith ladder site from Dillon's Blue Press.

I will second all the bad news. Rossi do not supply an email address, all we have in the UK is the importer Highland Outdoors, who are to be frank a load of Muppets. I would strongly advise against buying from suppliers with poor customer support and after sales service.

I don't think you shot out a barrel in 500 shots it probably was just fouled really bad. Most barrels do RC around 28 to 30. I have several Rossi guns and they all shoot really good. One does feed a little rough but you get what you pay for sometimes. It isn't a Winchester 92 or a Browning 92 or even an El Tigre which are all smooth as silk.

Guys, just wondering, I have a Uberti 1873 Winchester in 44-40. I like the gun. Fit and finish is good and it seems to work very well. Anyone had trouble with their Uberti?

Dave, Uberti's are fine. I have several for cowboy action shooting. My 1866 in 44-40 is fired 30,000 rounds a year and has been holding up with zero problems 4 years.

29 RC for barrel steel is quite normal; I find it incredible that it "shot out" in 500 rounds. I have owned several Rossis from 15-20 years ago and they were fine, just needing some action smoothing for cowboy shooting. The new Rossi is nothing but a Marlin rip off. But it should be possible to make it work as it is a proven design.
