Hello.
I ran into a huge case, on my resent visit in my local gunshop this week. Called 416 Chapuis. I've never heard of it. Can someone please tell me some more about this huge cartridge??

Hi 460wby,
Art Alphin from A-Square designed the cartridge for Chapuis so they could get 416 Rigby ballistics in a double rifle within proper pressures. He later called it the 416 Rimmed so that he could have other companies chamber for the round with as he called it a neutral name. I met the fellow from Chapuis in 96 at the SCI convention and he wasn't happy. He basically figured that he now had rifles built with 416 Chapuis engraved on them and no avaiable headstamped brass. There was a bit of a lag between the cartridge being called the 416 Chapuis and the 416 Rimmed. If the fellow that has the cartridges is interested in trading for a cartridge or selling one please have him e-mail me. Maybe he would like to have a 470 Mbogo cartridge

The 416 Chapuis and the 416/500 Kreighoff are ballistic twins. I have seen them used on African game with about the same results as the .416 bolt guns. With the rim I like them alot more than a .375 H&H double rifle, just for the simplicity of the lifter in the case of the Kreighoff and ejector on the Chapuis.

In Central Europe the preferred designation seems to be 500/416 Krieghoff. Heym also offers this chambering.

Up to now theres no No 2 with thicker rim.

Have fun, Hermann

Hello again, 470Mbogo.
I'll try to get hold of one case for you, if you like.(it was only, new, emty cases)
They are headstamped; A-Square, 416 CHAPUIS.
I belive he had a cuple more.(in a grey plasticbox, with a blue note on it. I belive it's originaly from A-Square??)
And yes!! I would like to have 470 Mbogo(dummy) in my collection!!
Am I right when I think that the 416 Chapuis comes from the 50 Sharps case??
I'll let you know as soon as I've spoke to the owner of the gunshop.
