Is there any soul out there who might know who the Hell provided the black synthetic stocks for Paul Jaeger when they were owned by Dunn's . . . back in the early '90's? I have one on my Arctic .375 and it is superbly shaped. Ugly and plastic, perhaps, but beautifully shaped. It fits me, too. Now I'm no more a great fan of plastic than Ray but given the choice between a sculptural piece of fiberglass and a hog's-a$$-ugly Monet Carlo piece of cheap hardwood, I'll go glass. And since there is no way I can afford to have my .404 in decent Bastogne, like it deserves, before I go back to Moz, I'd like to find out who makes "good" looking synthetic. And don't give me any (military expletives deleted here) about the superiority of all wood to all synthetics. You should see this horror. I mean, white line spacers, red grip cap, pressed checkering . . . Ooooh! Anyway, all help will be appreciated.

Thanx for the referral, Dawgy. It ain't the cost of the walnut that gets me, it's the labor. I don't think I'm up to doin' it myself with the new school year approaching and that grand it would cost for Chic to do it right will cut back on my safari somethin' fierce. So plastic it will have to be . . . for the present.

Wood is Good, but McMillan is better in some ways, eh?

Oldsarge,

I put a Bell & Carlson Medalist on my .375Ultra and I'm very pleased. Since installing the B&C,
my groups have improved drastically and it doesn't look too bad either.

Yeah, plastic has its points, unfortunately. I have this terrible feeling that whoever it was that made Jaeger's stocks is no longer in business or has changed their ownership. B&C is sending me a catalog and I've got a email out to Lone Wolf. Come Monday I'll give McMillan a call. I'd really rather have walnut/ebony forend/skeleton gripcap, etc. and some day all the bangers will wear it but for the present . . .

Oldsarge,

I had a old PA based Paul Jaeger rifle restored by Dunn's/Jaeger of Tenn, in 1993(which I later sold in a fit of maddness). If I recall when I was exploring options (restock-wood vs plastic, or restore et al) Jaegers was offering plastic handles by Garrett Accur-Lt D.F.S. Co.

I could be wrong though, as I also remember Brown Precision being mentioned.

Garrett's is out of business I think, but Brown's is still a going concern.

Hope this help's.

Oldsarge,
One could always just email Mark Cromwell at NECG and ask [Smile]
bestguns@cyberportal.net

Mark has been pretty good about answering any Q's that I've had, even the "dumb and dumber" ones too!

Would like to see your .404J when you get it all setup. Mine is presently a work in progress :-)

Regards,
Jeff Pfeifer

If indeed your stock is a Garret Accurlite I can see why you like it. I have one on a 340 WB and is is twice the stock in fit and design that my two MacMillians are.

I think he is gone also but if you find him let me know.

Hmmm, Garrett Accu-Lite, huh? Well if he is gone I will see if I can find out who took over his design. Corelite, maybe?
