I use about 45-48 grains of UNIQUE and a filler for reduced loads in our 577 T.Rex.

I think I am getting about 1100 fps with these.

Let me finish the test I am running right now on the 404, and I will work some up for the 577 T.Rex.

I have used 80 grains of H4831 with a 1200 grain cast bullet (NEI mold) for plinking with the .585. There is a little recoil, but nothing like a full power load. And those big lead pills make a loud SLAP! when they hit the backstop.

You could also try out XMP5744 which is excellent for reduced loads in the nitro express cartridges. I have not used it in the .585 nyati but my guess is that you could start with 60 grains or so and a 750 grain bullet. If you contact Accurate Arms (maker of XMP5744) they may have a starting load for you.

Shoot full bore loads. Don't fool yourself with low velocity loads. Otherwise, It's like running a race car on the street. A Nyati isn't that impressive with full bore loads anyway.-Rob

Reduced loads do come in handy sometimes.

We had some people over for dinner one day. Amongst them were a husband and wife who like to shoot skeet.

He is quite a big man, about 6 2 or 3, and his wife was barely 5 feet!

Anyway, we all came down to shoot, and when I asked him if he wanted to shoot the 577 T.Rex.

"Not on your life mate! I know what that does to you when you shoot it!"

His wife said "Go on darling, try it!"

He turned to her and said "YOU try it!"

She asked "Can I try it?"

"Of course" I said.

I keep a few rounds loaded with about 45 grains of UNIQUE. So I brought out a box of ammo, loaded the reduced charge for her and she fired it.

"You see darling. It does not kick any more than a 12 bore"

"Alright! I will shoot one from the same box! I don't want you doing something to the ammo"

He did, and landed on his backside!

The wife "OH DARLING what happened?"

We all got an earful of insults for our troubles.

Have you tried any reduced loads in the .577 T-Rex using 5744?

I don't have any of this powder, but I suspect any of the pistol powder wouled work.

I have been a bit busy the past couple of days, and have not had the chance to continue the 404 load developmen.

Once that is done I would try the 577 T.Rex.

Hi,hi..!!

Thats a classic, Saeed!!
I did the same thing with my 460wby and a friend. He wanted to try it from the bench. I loaded a redused load, with a light bullet, for his first shot, without he knowing it. After a lot of time and wandering he fired.
Then he said: "this was not to bad, let me get one more!"
Then I chambered a maximum load with a 500 grainer.
I knew that he relaxed more now, and wantet to hit good.
The cap and the earprotection claped over his eyes and he screemed at me, and wander WHAT HAPPEND!!!
I was on my knees, laughing...... Wink

Sorry, back to topic!

We re-chamered a Ruger #1 458 Winchester into 460 Weatherby.

Not many people wanted to shoot it.

So we took a Thompson Center Contender spare barrel we had in 223 Remington, and turned down to go into the Rugers barrel as a barrel insert.

We used to put that insert into the 460 Weatherby, and shoot 223 ammo in it. When we got somone we wanted to shoot the real thing, we gave them a few rounds of 223 to shoot, then somone would keep them occupied as I removed the insert and loaded a full power 460 Weatherby round.

That was before we had a video camera. As their reaction was something to remember clap

Not meaning to rain on anyones parade, but if someone did that to me, I would kick the shit out of them. Someone could get seriously hurt expecting a 223 recoil, and getting a full 460 weatherby load!

Really a great way to sort out a flinch, starting with a .223 and then getting a 460 Wea substitute. Or a great way to start one, dancing
