My 470 Mbogo is a reality. The headstamped brass is not. Quality Cartridge is supposed to be making it come true too,

I ordered the BeLL basic brass yesterday.

I used some Norma 416 Rigby cases to fireform and check the chamber.

To do this I seated a Barnes XLC 500 grainer backwards, so the base of the bullet would contact the lands and establish headspace. 15 rounds were fired and the Barnes XLC flew true.

The brass comes out 0.1000" short in the neck this way. I used 95 grains of RL-15 to fire form.

Full length cases and higher velocity will be needed to establish the final elevation zero of the express sights. Windage is already right on.

I will use the BeLL stuff until QualCart comes through.

I have some 470 MBOGO brass and have fireformed some from 416 Rigby also. You're right the Rigby stuff is too short but will work OK, although it makes an alreadyshort neck situation even worse. Once you have the Bell stuff, all you need to do is run it through your FL sizer, trim and load . My latest load is 105 grs of RL-15 with a Woodleigh 500 gr solid or soft. I have no chrono data on it so far, but the load seems very accurate and pleasant to shoot.-Rob

Hi Ron,
Glad to hear that your project is coming full circle. Have you tried any full power loads yet. Meaning 110 to 111 grains of reloader 15 with a 500 grain bullet. If you need some brass headstamped send me an e-mail. Hope you enjoy the hell out of it.
Take care,
470 Mbogo

Bakes,
G'day mate. Glad to here you had the inspiration to have a classy 416 Rigby built. We gotta help keep the wolf (dingo) from the door of the noble gunsmith.

BMG,
You should surely be getting yours soon. I have found a great smith in my neck of the woods, who actually did my 470 Mbogo on a BBK-02 action. After Kevin got so busy I decided to branch out. Rusty McGhee, Hilltop Gun Shop, Falls of Rough, Kentucky. He is actually a degreed mechanical engineer who did his time with the Corps of Engineers at Rough River Dam, then went off into gunsmithing. Good man.

Rob,
I will start at 105 grains when I have the longer brass and the bullets pointed in the right direction. [Big Grin]

Dave,
Thanks for the offer. If Qual Cart doesn't come up with the brass soon, I will take you up on it.
Thanks for creating the 470 Mbogo too. I will try the data on your web site. Long live the 470 Mbogo! It is enough gun for anything and still a portable, shootable gun with no funky muzzle brake. Mine weighs 10.5 lbs but is so well balanced it floats to my shoulder and lines up right now. I will post pictures for your amusement later. Back to work now.

Hi Ron,
My new 470 Mbogo is the same way balance wise. It feels nuetral when you put it up. Ten and a quarter to ten and a half pounds is the perfect power to weight ratio for the 470 also. It sounds like you have an awesome rifle that will be up to any task.
Take care,
470 Mbogo
