Privet! Although i have ever used this clibre in my blaser my friend from the dealership in Australia had one and used it to hunt waterbuffalo here in Australia. It knocked them flat so I think it will be fine for bear and any other game of that size.

You should have asked first as there are better choices at least as far as availability.I understand that even in Germany the 45Blaser ammo is hard to find.45-70 in a strong action is proven medicine for big bears as is the 450 Marlin .The Marlin guidegun in 45-70 is very popular in Alaska and other states here.

Morning The Tzar bought hundreds of thousands of Winchester 1895 lever action rifles for his army, in caliber 7.62x54. Teddy Rooseveldt used the same rifle, but in 405 caliber to hunt hundreds of animals in Africa after his term in the White House. I suspect that the 1895 in 405 or the 1886 in 45-70 would settle most any bear's problems. The .45Blaser was a good idea. But in a bolt gun it´s easier to get a .458WinMag. Especial easier to get the ammo. In Germany the .45Blaser is a nearly dead round. Only Wolfgang Romey is making ammo for it. Ask him, if it´s possible to get ammo in Russia. And then buy 100 or more rounds. http://wr-munition.com/wrm-munition.html# I know only one or two hunters here, using the Blaser round. It´s a good wild boar killer. But same can be done with a .45-70, .450Marlin or a "classic", like the 9,3x62. Martin

I had one Sako L579 rifle in caliber .45 blaser. I build it some years ago because i just had one free sako action what i didnt use then. Caliber fit really nice to that action. Only problem is feeding what is not 100% sure all time. but i can live whit it. I had shot several wildboars, red deers, white tails, mouflons and roedeers by that caliber gunsn and its working well if know what to do. First i load woodleigh 405gr bullets for it and i wasnt happy of results. All animal what i shot running too far away after shot. I try several kind bullets and now fianly i found this year bullets and loads what i like. I use now new Woodleigh 300gr bullets And muzzle velocity is anout 750m/s. I know woodleigh recommed much lower speed for it but bullets really working well even those velocity. I test bullets of wet paper and it loose only 1-2g of weigh and im really happy of it. Biggest animal this year for that bullet was 5+5 points silver medal white tail and bullets go nicely trough of front legs and animal run 20-25meters after shot. What i had experience of that caliber its really power full small ammo. Of course .458win is more but 45-70 and 450 marlin size is less power full. Its really nice to shoot and fit in small action. This is no matter if use R93 but if built it some other gun its mean lot. I havent use it yet any real big game but im not afraid take this caliber gun example moose or bear hunting. Mine Sako im not take but reason isnt caliber but problem is that guns feeding problem. My opinion is reloading ammo enough light bullets by maximum speed and just enjoy of hunting. Good caliber. Spasbo zhaba. It is good to knowing of your friend's success in hunting with the caliber. As you say bear brown even are inferior in size to buffalo. Evgeny

I have been informed that on purchase of a rifle it is good idea to purchase also a quantity of ammunition which the rifle is regulated for at same time. It is expensive in Russia but I have purchased 200 rounds of 22.7 gramme ammuntion with rifle. 45.70 and .450 marlin is more difficult to get ammunition for!
