I have ordered some 300-grain Barnes X Triple Shock bullets to work up loads for my .375 H&H, but I don't have a Barnes handload manual. I intend to try these with IMR 4350, W760, Reloder 19 or IMR 4064, among others, Winchester large rifle magnum primers, and Win brass. Could you help me out with any load data for the 300 grain X bullet in this caliber? (According to Barnes, the load data for the regular X bullet will be safe for use with the new Triple Shocks.) The max RL-15 load in the Barnes manual is 72.0 grains. I used this with WW brass, Federal GM215M primer and the old 300 grain X-Cannelured bullet. Got just about 2530 fps in a 24" barrel, which is 100 fps or more slower than the Barnes manual shows, as usual. I find their velocities usually inflated. But that is the classic velocity that I got. The new Triple-Shock X of .375/300gr might do even better for lower pressure/higher velocity/better accuracy. Hopefully they will open up well at the traditional .375 H&H velocity. The old X-Bullets did for me, and that is what I used on all plains game in Botswana.

Thanks much, RIP. Anyone else have loads with that bullet for the other powders?

With cannelured 300 grs Barnes .375 X FB bullet and RWS cases, CCI 250 Magnum Rifle Primers up of 72 grs of Wihtavuori N 140 I've got Vo 2.630 fps and good accuracy. Rifle is a Sako 75 Hunter. I don't have experience with TSX 300 grs .375 Barnes bullets but you can start your work from this load. Have a great day, ciao Jeffery's .500 overall

You are on the right track. My bets would be on Re 15 and 4350. Somewhere, I think it was the A Square manual, they used H 4831. It has been a good powder in several other rifles for me. Might be worth a try if you have some laying around. Good hunting Although cartridge selection is important there is nothing that will substitute for proper first shot placement. El Dodexe and D Hunter: Thanks for your comments. D Hunter: IMR 4831 is on my list of powders to try, as well. I may be able to get enough into the case with a 300-grain Barnes bullet, whereas H4831 might be too bulky in that caliber with that bullet. I am hoping that someone with the Barnes manual might be able to provide a little load data for either IMR 4350, Reloder 19, W760, or IMR 4064 with the 300-grain X bullet.

BigBrass - Barnes shows RL15, IMR4895, and IMR4064 to be the most accurate powders that they list in #3 manual. The only other listed load above 2600fps with a 300gr X bullets is 70gr 4320. Other loads are: 70.0/AA2700 @2499; 68.0/H4895 @2476; 69.5/H380 @2495; 78.0/H414 @2481; 64.0/IMR4895 @2476; 67.0/IMR4064 @2548; and 78.0/Win 760 @2502. All loads listed are MAX according to Barnes for the 300gr X bullet. I have found most of their loads are pretty close to what I can get in my Mark X (Whitworth) if I put the bullets out to 3.60 OAL, but seated deeper (as Barnes recommends) I seem to loose about 40 to 60fps with conventional bullets. The loads I've tried are with Win760, RL15, IMR4064, and 78.0/IMR4350 (NOT LISTED IN THEIR MANUAL). I have not tried either of the 4831's by du Pont, or Hogdon (same company, but different products) and think it would be hard to "stuff" (compress) all the powder you would need for 2600fps. I have tried up to 77.5/AA4350 and gotten just over 2600fps, but not when the temperatures drop below freezing. I'd also be interested in other's input on the subject that would bring out the "fastest" combination without going over pressure or to a "blown out" case like a .375 JRS. I do know that Hornady offers the "Heavy Magnum" factory ammo; however, I am told it is not possible to load their components with our "amatuar" presses. Has anyone chronographed their ammo? Hope I have been of some help. Of course please don't hold me accountable for any misprint of Barnes' data or any overloads for any reason (as per standard, start out 10% below the max listed). You know the legal jargon and the precautions. Good luck! Mags

If I am going to use a monolithic bullet in the 375, I use the lighter bullet of 260 to 270 grs. as the 300 gr. long monolithic bullets create compaction and I don't like that particularly in hot climates. The other thing is a 270 gr. Barnes will penetrate better than the 300 barnes in my tests although they are very very close. Not an unusual finding in monolithic bullets as velocity helps penetration in a monolithic... mags: Thanks a bunch; that data is very helpful. (And yes; you are off the hook in case Barnes got it wrong or I make a mistake.) Ray: Thanks for your comments. They are very useful. I intend to try the 270-grainers as well; but so far I just haven't been able to get ahold of any.
