Look for the cocking piece on the bolt being slightly misalligned with the action tang slot it rides in or that it's binding the action tang screw.. Look for excessive wear.Check that the extractor isn't binding up in the bolt raceway. Again look for excessive wear marks. On the CZ550 the small button on the shroud is for the disassembly of the bolt head. Make sure it isn't pressed in and causing the should to stick or the cocking piece to bind up.-Rob

Ok guys... I'm stumped again. I pulled the gun out of the safe last night to see if I could use your advice to figure out the problem... The first thing I did was remove the scope and guess what? The bolt worked perfectly.

I'm using Warne QD scope mounts and for the life of me I can't figure how mounting them on a dovetail base would make the bolt feel sticky.

Any ideas? Any suggestions?

Seriously, In a nutshell, ScottS suggested I tighten one base and not the other to see if I could isolate the issue. I actually did that last night and it is the rear base causing the problem even when the front base is totaly lose the binding still occurs when I crank down on the rear base. I wouldn't think that a finger tight base would be able to do any tweaking on that massive action but aparently it can...

Could you post a picture of those bases?

If i understand you correct, your saying that when you install the rear base, the fouling occurs? or is it when you add the rear ring the problem happens?

Either way, it just does not seem possible that tightening a screw would cause this distortion...surely the threads would strip first?

Is this what your rear ring looks like? This is the rear Warne QD I have on my CZ550.



I cannot understand how tightening down that ring is putting your bolt in a bind. Have you tried it with loose rings i.e. no scope?

Yes that is the same ring that I have and yes, I'm with you... it doesn't make sense does it.

No I haven't tried it sans the scope but I tried about everything else.

At this point I think I'm ready to take it to my gun smith and see if he can figure it out... he sold me the rings so I figure he owes me!

I hope you and your gunsmith can get it figured out. I love mine, they don't move under recoil and return to < 1 MOA. They reside on a big boomer too. Good luck.
