I was finally able to get out and put a few rounds through the 600 today. This gun was built by Hyem back in 1992. I fired some 900 grain bullets at regular speed through it and the some hotter 730 grain crayola shaped bullets the Rob made up for it. I shot it 11 times and did not get to the last 2 hottest loads. They will have to wait till next time. I have benn having a few health problems with my weight and am not as mobile as I used to be. Losing quite q bit of weight will take care of 90 % of my problems. After 50 it is just harder to do. My shoulder was not killng me, but the gun certainly kicks. Nice heavy Krupp barrel, no muzzle brake on it. It handeled all the loads fine, but is not the smoothest feeding gun to use. I bought it as a collector piece. I have my 600 O.K's if I ever want to hunt with the 600. I think there were 16 or 19 of these made in the 600 caliber. This one is serial number 005. I know that Connecticut Shotgun has number 002 for sale. It has a muzzle brake on it.I want to thank Rob for the bullets. Over all a good time with it.

Rob, I shot up through the 2300 ft/sec 730 grain bullets. No sticking problems. The 2500 ft/sec rounds will be tested next time out.

bigdoggy...

What kind of stock design did Hyem use for that rifle???

Shape, design, wood, etc...

Best of luck to you on your weight loss...you'll feel 100% better...the better you feel the more cannons you can shoot!!!

The stock is fairly straight forward. It looks like the one below pretty much.

Yes, nice stocks and nice lines.

This goes back in the middle of the 1990.
It is an older Heym design.
Not new.

Nice looking rifle!

Can you tell me what parent case is used for the .600 Nitro bolt action cartridge?

Best,
Dave

It used the same ancient venerable Rimmed.600NE case as used in double rifles.

Are there any issues with feeding and ejection of the rimmed cases?
And is the action bigger (eg compared to the CZ magnum action) to cope with this large case?

I think they will do it on special order.
But it is not cheap and more an collector pice.
For every person how want to shoot an .600, please use one of our double rifles, the Jumbo, in .600 NE.

No feeding problems.
It is very accurate

And:
Yes, it is the long action.

Disagree TOTALLY on the feeding. The gun is very accurate though! - The .600NE Heym exhibits TERRIBLE feeding with all bullets I tried except just maybe the 750 gr Crayola Tips.Remember I have access to many different .600 bullets and make my own by CNC. I probably have more real trigger time behind .600's than anyone alive right now too! The gun was just too expensive for me to want to even attempt to make it work and If Heym knew how to do it, you wonder why it came out of the factory the way it did in the first place. Making Rimmed cases feed through a M98 based action isn't easy and Heym didn't get it right either. I've played with 5 of the first 20 guns and they didn't feed any better than mine did. I believe Heym is still making them but the cost is in the 20K range. This gun exhibits the WORST recoil handling characteristics of any weapon I've ever seen and the heavy barrel with no muzzle break and Teutonic stock all combine to make things worse. THe exact same loads in my .600OK are easy to shoot while those loads in the Heym are punishing and nearly uncontrolable. The only person I know who can handle it is Ken and he is the only person I would sell this gun to. Even he needs to be careful of the high end loads. Trust me you will be done shooting the Heym .600NE long before you will be done with a .600OK. The main question will be whether it breaks your collar bone first or your retinas detach. If your lucky it will fly out of your hands before either of the above occurs.
I hated to sell this gun because it was the best tool ever invented to deal with "know it all's", gun braggarts and rifle range commando's and Range Officer Nazi's. The very sight of this gun drew them like flies! I Used to challenge them to shoot it (in front of others), slip in a 2300fps round with a 900 gr bullet and stand behind them ready to catch the gun. The aftermath combined look of pain, amazement and fear on their faces was priceless!!!! No one ever wanted to shoot it a second time either!!!-Rob

ROB:

Thank you for your posting.
...my english is not god enought to start a discussion with you...

Al I can say:
- Im a gun dealer (not only Heym, but I like them) and I had sell some of this .600 Heyms
- First there are collector peaces, more to collect, as to hunt
- I had sell ... I think 4 or 5 and I shoot some of them...
- Second: I know the owners and non of them had problems with the gun

Recoil:
- The recoil is hard but managebel.
- Here you can see me with a part-Heym in .460 Weatherby.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ck-bGCdg73A
Attantion: This is an fun video, I know there are tactical mistakes (foot pointing, etc.)
- I search for an video of my friend Dr. Frank an gun master and special forces shooting instructor. He shoots 3 bullets, with the Heym .600 bolt action, at 20 yards in an peace of paper under 10 seconds.
He is an amasing shoot and very quick in the handling...

Best wishes (and end from me here in this thread)

S. B.

Ing- no disrespect to you meant at all. My comments are about the gun period. It's a beast and I had a lot of fun with it. Try a .600 OK when you get a chance or if you ever come to Las Vegas. -Rob
