who wants a 9lb rifle minus scope, especially chambered in less than 375 h&h? the balance is probably piss poor and the rifle alone would suck for an extended backpack hunting trip.

Actually, not me. I am looking at the 375H&H but just because it's called the "Alaskan" doesn't mean that I require one for backpacking hunts...

Cheers,
Mark.

Moose,
I have carried mine (Safari version) on a couple of hunts. It weights 9.5 to 10 lbs and is easy to carry. I am not climbing mountains but walking 5 to 10 miles per day.

They can be lightened up with a plastic stock and some other work, but I like the overall forward heavy balance and the steadiness of a heavier gun.

To each his own.

I wish they would make one in 404 Jeffery.

Most of my rifles are within a half pound either side of ten pounds. I find it easier to shoot that way. People keep telling me that you carry it more than you shoot it but the difference between a hike and a hunt is that one shot at the end.

That said my new darling is 8 pounds and points like a wand.

And I wish I had a winning lottery ticket and super model who owns a hunting concession in Tanzania for a girl friend.

Doesn't hurt to dream I guess. Wink

Given the popularity of the CZ upgrade rifles I am surprised that Winchester are so conservative. They already have the 300 RUM in their list and all they need is a new barrel / chamber combination for the action & stock.

404 Jeffery would sell like hot cakes IMHO.

There has been no announcement of 300 rum's in the new model 70's that I know of. New Haven made a few.

If they chambered a new model 70 in the RUM, I'd be first in line.
