A friend is putting together a new 12-Bore break-open rifle. He'll be shooting 730 or 750gr home-cast bullets, sitting on 165-189gr of blackpowder. His preferrence for his old BP rifles is a Tang sight with a ring up front or the old external adjustment scopes. He can't put a Tang sight on this rifle, and obviously he doesn't want anything sitting near his eyes. Though he usually shoots at a 440-yard gong, this 12-Bore will most likely be limited to 100 yards (maybe a 235 gong if 100 is too easy). So I suggested maybe a Scout style scope would work. Is this an option? The parallax will be horrendous, but I don't know if a solid cheek weld is advisable. Any ideas? Can't wait to see and shoot this thing. So far the biggest BP rifle he has is a 50-140, w/ 600gr bullet. Figuring that a 12-Bore translates to 72-189, w/ 750gr bullet it should be a real blast. I plan to capture all the effects on camera. It'll be fun to measure the BP cloud. Spotting will have to done from 3-4 benches over, and then only up wind. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* When I mention a cartridge, the rifles involved: 22LR Cooey SingleShot | 22 Hornet 40sCZ | 223Rem CZ 527 Varmint 30-06 Husqvarna Sporter | 300 WinMag A-BoltII S/S BOSS | 458 WinMag Ruger #1

I want to give this one more chance. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Are we stuck with a V in back and a post up front? I might manage with that, but the owner is 71 and needs at least a peep sight. I would really appreciate some insight on this. Thanks. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* When I mention a cartridge, the rifles involved: 22LR Cooey SingleShot | 22 Hornet 40sCZ | 223Rem CZ 527 Varmint 30-06 Husqvarna Sporter | 300 WinMag A-BoltII S/S BOSS | 458 WinMag Ruger #1
