Can CH4D dies be used in RCBS presses. The 500 A-Square dies(CH4D) have larger threads. Does some one make a die plate for rcbs for the larger threads. I looked at CH4D and RCBS, can't find one on either site. It would be nice to use the RCBS I have with the cheaper CH4D dies. Thanks for the help. [Confused]

SBB,

There was a set of 500 A-square dies(RCBS?) on the Huntington's site under the bargains section.
Don't know if they're still there.

Yes, they will fit in an RCBS Rock Chucker, but the overall cartridge length is a bit long, so you end up unscrewing the die to get the loaded cartridge out of the shell holder.

The CH4D dies are a 1-14" thread. You can order a 1 1/4"-12 1"-14 adapter for $15 that will thread into the rock chucker, that's the route I went with my 500 Jeffrey dies.

Redding makes 500A2 dies on the 7/8X14tpi thread size for std presses, or you can get an adapter for the 1X14tpi CH4D dies ammo-master press.-Rob

This sounds strange but both of my 450 Rigby dies and 500 A-Square dies from CH4D are in the standard thread size. Good luck.

I just got some CH4D dies and they are fairly loose in my RCBS press(it's 30years old), the thread is the right size just loose more so than my RCBS Redding or Bonaza dies. Is there any easy fix to this problem?

My ch4 .585 dies required that I buy another bushing to make them work in my RC11 but other than that they are great dies and the set up works a treat.

416.
Get some teflon tape at a hardware or plumbing supply and wrap the threads until they snug up tight.

It seems that CH4D has different threads on different dies in the same calliber. Does anybody know how come? I guess that anything smaller and including 500 A-square (See Mingos post) can have the standard threads but sometimes they don't. Perhaps it's just a matter of what size they have on the basic material before reaming the chamber when somebody order dies. [Confused]

Perhaps one has to specify that one wants standard thread sizes when ordering CH4D dies.

My CH4D dies screwed right in to my Rock Chucker press with no problem (although the dies are headspaced too short for my rifle).

E-mail Dave Davison, owner of CH4D at: dave@ch4d.com. I would tell you to call him, but you would be on the phone no less than an hour! The man loves to talk about guns.

Just in case you are brave enough to call him, (get a cup of coffee and settle in for the afternoon), his phone number is (740)397-7214.

I have an old set of 50-460Wby CH4D dies that fit my RCBS Jr. I have to unscrew them to seat a bullet.

The only thing that I can think of for this problem is that Dave makes all the new big bore dies with a larger bar stock. If you are lucky to buy one of the off the shelve dies made a couple of years ago then maybe there is a good chance that you will get one with a standard thread size. A fone call to CH4D will clear this up. I was gonna call Beth this week abou this but forgot about it. Good luck.
