I was wondering, would you describe the recoil of the 577 T-Rex as a push or a slap? You know what I mean, shotguns and blackpowder rifles are usually in the "push" category while the loudnboomers are in the kick/slap/jab category.

So what about the T-Rex?

I've had a serious discussion with my smart ass and it would like to extend it's apologies for jerking your collective chains. After watching some of the videos of people getting knocked to the ground my smart ass just had to ask that question. I wasn't paying attention and the post above proves it.

Of course I realize that at these levels, push or slap really isn't relevant any longer.

What are the loads and velocities etc being used for the videos.

As I remember Mitch wa up at 2500 or 2600 with 750 grainers.

"..the t.rex by far was the most difficult to shoot accurately.Because of the tremendous recoil and the torque of the bullet that ripped the fore end out of your hand and often made the rifle lay down on its side".

Ed, I suppose 16 to 18 pounds would make a difference but I wouldn't want to spend a day in the field with a gun that heavy. My 550 will finish out around 12 pounds, maybe 13 tops and I'll just have to load up to my personal limit. Hope thats around 2200 fps with a 700 grainer.

You were definately pointing into the sky while rocking/absorbing the recoil (everyone does), but I don't think you took any steps backward. If I remember, you took 5-6 full power loads and a bunch of plinker loads and handled them well. Side note- I never did see a bear during the 7 days of hunting . It's too bad because I had some 650gr loads in the T-Rex ready .

The people who studder step backward are usually sub-caliber shooters who's response to seeing the loaded round is something like "Holy crap, you do realize the dinosaurs are dead, right?". They don't know how to diffuse recoil well.
