Recovered Swift A-frame

CanuckRecovered Swift A-frame
This is not the greatest pic, clarity wise, and I have not weighed or measure the bullet yet, but I thought I'd go ahead and post it anyway, for all you recovered bullet junkies. Hopefully it will motivate me to get off my butt and get the thing measured up etc!
This bullet is from my very first cape buff. Its a 500gr .475 Swift A-Frame. My first shot hit the bull in the junction of the neck and shoulder and dropped it in its tracks. We never recovered that bullet. As we approached the bull, I gave it one more between the shoulder blades for good measure (as my friend Dave E. says...its not so much about the anticipation of the hunt as it is about how much powder you burn when you get there!

). The bullet entered the spine perfectly centered and we recovered it under the skin, centered on its "belly" close to the diaphram. About 3.5 feet of penetration, including the entire depth of the spine.
Its definitely a tough bullet!
Cheers,
Canuck

I have a 300gr .375 Swift A-frame recovered from a bison that doesn't look too good! But I can't say that the bullet failed. At the time I thought it may have failed to open, but in light of subsequent events with the same rifle and different bullets, I am now of the opinion that there was something wrong with the barrel that caused the bullet to arrive with insufficient stability.
So my short answer is, I don't think they ever do fail! They are by far my favorite soft.

Canuck

JohnHuntThat looks just like the one I recovered from a Giraffe in 375H&H.
I hear Federal is trying to figure out how to load A-frames. Problem is Rem has a pretty tight contract with Swift.

470 MbogoHI Chris,
That bullet looks great considering how much spine it took out. It just goes to show that 2500 fps isn't too much withtop quality bullets.
The best of the season to you Chris. Hilary and I are off to Africa on the 28th. Armed with a Fuji F10 and a 2 gig card.
Take the best of care,
Dave

Dave, I think you've been watching my Ray A. videos again!

Next you'll be saying they are too smooth to be effective on buffalo!
Cheers and all the best of the season to ya buddy,

jorgeHere you go guys: Three 375 A Frames recovered from a Zebra (125 yards), eland, (175) and wildebeest (65). The one on the far right is a 189gr 30 cal Hornady recovered from an impala shot at 80 yards. The A Frames retained around 97% plus weight while the Hornady only weighed 78gr or so. jorge
