For decades we hunters, shooter have pursued the higher velocity, heavier payload, incrediably accurate goal. We've just about reached the end of that path. The rifles are almost perfect, the optics are increditable, the projectiles are nearly perfect, the powders and cases are bumping up against the very edge of 'almost too much'.
Maybe we should take a different trail and go for high angle delivery systems. What a challenge it would be to launch a one pound projectile up one mile in the sky and at the end of fall have it hit the game animal on the run.
This would give the weapon producers new avenues to explore, the ballistics people would have a ball, the optics/lazer rangefinder makers could come up with devices that would challenge the current counter battery fire control systems for the artillry.
All of this in a nine pound French walnut stock!

What inspired me was....recently one of the correspondents to this topic listed 4 or 6 40 caliber cartridges throwing 400 gr. bullets at 2400 fps.
Knowing shooters, there are some who would be most pleased to call air stikes in on those who would dare disagree that the .4123 Royal Bum Buster was the nee plus ultra for throwing 403 gr bullets at 2399 fps. The fact that my .4099 Smoken Dorker throws a 400 gr bullet at 2401.7 fps would bring cries of how the bullet would rivet at that uncalled for velocity, and the pressures when used in the Okavango Swamp on or about Jan. 13th would clearly cause pressure spikes.
I thought I'd give the observers of how many angels can dance on the head of pin something new to think about.

Well now that may not be such a problem. You suppose the taxidermist could mount one? What breed of dog would you use for fetching?

You'd have to have a "fire & forget' homing capability with such a round, because of time of flight!!
