Does anyone have one of the CZ Safaris with the Super Grade Stock (or what ever they call their fancy wood)? If so would it be possible to see a picture of it or at least your opinion.

As usual just my $.02

I have a very nice 416 Rigby with great wood(black walnut I Think). It has completely been redone by Roger Farrell(Rogers Gunworks).I have never posted a picture here but will try to figure it out in the next few minutes.

It's hard to tell form the pics, but the .458Lott at Collectors Fireams seems to have decent wood. Wink
I don't see anything special about the piece offered at Hallowell site. Confused

I would have been very dissapointed if I had bought that site unseen, Mikes looks very nice and the one at collectors is OK.

Don't let the factory finish fool you. That's a better piece of wood than it appears. It just needs to be stripped, have its pores filled, stained a little darker to bring out the figure in the wood and coated in multiple coats of a good oil finish. I did the Mannlicher stock on my Model 527FS and you wouldn't know it was the same piece of wood! In my experience, whatever stain CZ uses is in the finish and it obscures the color and grain of the stock more than most think.

Ok, Yes the factory finish on the one on hollowell does look washed. Mike, Starbuck and Strawboss all refinished their new stocks. Seems like this is needed to get the grain to show. Several of us are looking to buy our old boss a retirement present. He is heading to Africa next year. He likes the look of a nice stock. I can get a field grade for $680 and the high grade for 1150. For those of you that went with the high grade do you feel it was worth it?

Is there something better for $1200 or less in 375 H&H with nice WOOD?

If we go with the CZ should I just plan on refinishing it?

Ruger RSM can be had at right at $1200. I feel it is a much nicer rifle right out of the box overall. This model comes with nice Turkish walnut, integral quarter rib, and proper express sights.

There was one of these on Sale at Turners in San Diego. Its been a coupled of weeks don't know status but it was $1000 and change.

I thought the wood was pretty nice when I looked it over. I didn't care for the finish particularly but some elbow grease and a oil finish would correct all my complaints. My thoughts on the finish are pretty much standard fare on all new guns, I don't care for the factory sprayed on finishes, the CZ was well done in this regard, but that still isn't an oil finish.

Thanks Starbuck. Right now with 4 of us voting it is tied 2CZ and 2 Ruger. I'm going to try and get a feel from my old boss his preference. After all it will be his rifle. LOL
