This is what a 10ga double shotgun I am looking has stamped on it. I take it this is a proofing. What is that in PSI or do I have it all wrong?

1 bar = 1 atmosphere (at standard pressure and temperature) =~ 14.7 psi = 100 kPa

To be precise 1 BAR is equal to 10E5 Pascals and/or 14.50377 psi. Since one standard atmosphere is equal to 14.7 psi, a BAR ain't 'exactly' one standard atmosphere.

Karl - your 10 ga must be proofed at 1200 BAR or 17,400 psi.

Could be I have a double 10 guage that can double as a double 10 BORE, excusing the double-up on words.
Seriously I wonder if I could load ball into some hulls and step them out a bit.

Just bringing this topic back to the top.
Depending on what the experts here reckon,I was thinking of a litle interim project whilst I find a better way to waste way more money

A brass case in the same dimensions as a 10ga shotshell would have a hell of a capacity.
If some could be made, could the old 10 bore loads(say 4500ftlbs)be generated from such a case for a shotgun that is proofed for 17,000PSI as above.
Like a poor man's smoothbore stopper(as dubious a stopper as the 10bore was anyway )

On case capacity alone I would think....yes?

But does whatever the double gun equivalent of 'bolt thrust' affect the plan.I mean would the gun end up in my face in pieces for any reason before I could exceed normal 10 'guage' power.
And also what about the greater recoil affecting the workings of a single trigger recocking etc.

I test shot the current 500 grain Sabot, out of a 12 gauge, that's now used for Winchester Police only.

Kicked like hell(RELATIVE TERM: 105 mm cannon, shooting a 37 pound HE round, at 2900 fps, kicked a hell of a LOT more;-) from the bench. Scoped remington shotgun.

I see no reason that a similar round couldn't be worked up for a 10 gauge, with devastating results.

Our sabot had a flat metplate, and looked a LOT
like a 105mm sabot, in minature.

Wonder why?
