Hi, does Winchester make an M70 Extreme Weather in 375 H&H? Do they make one in left handed? And is there still a Winchester Custom Shop?

Thanks,

Chuck

Chuck

I believe currently, the only 375 option is the Safari Classic.

Damn, thanks guys. I was planning to buy my two sons matching 375s (one's left handed and the other's right handed) but I really would like to get them new M70s. They both want to hunt brown bear so I really want synthetic/stainless. I guess I'll wait another year or two and see what comes out.

Regards,

Chuck

Chuck,

As far as I know, USRAC never made a LH stainless steel with synthetic stock .375H&H.

Whether the new factory will produce any in the near future is unknown.

If you dont have heart set on 375H&H another option would be the CZ Kevlar Carbine in 9.3x62. Tha is 1 pound lighter than the Alaskan, seems the ideal loading for Brown bear. It a significant alternative to unique new/improved Hornady only 375.

Right hand carbine:

The also make a Kevlar rifle in 9.3x62 - right handed.

For left handed you could inquire at the custon shop.

CZ does make left handed 550's, limited availability and priced higher. And in Kevlar I dont know?

I was reading about a special order on the lefty forum form CZ including 375 and 9.3

This is a little off topic but years ago when I ran a gun shop for a large hunting store, I noticed a stark difference in the rate of rusting by different gun companies with their stainless rifles. This shop was in a large mall and we had a very high foot traffic volume so the guns got handled a lot daily. At 9PM every night the mall shut the air conditioning off until 9AM the next morning. If my night shift didn't do what they were supposed to, oil all the guns at closing, we could see some pretty significant rusting from handling with the stainless guns. Some would rust sooner than high polish blued guns in fact. Of all the companies, Winchester rifles always showed significant rust soon than Ruger, Remington, or Savage. The Rugers just never seemed to rust no matter how long they went without oiling. The Remingtons & Savages not quite as long as the Rugers but longer than the Winchesters. I always just chalked it up to different stainless steel blends. Interesting observation I never hear anyone talk about.

If CZ made the new Kevlar 9.3 in LH I think you'd have the perfect match.

If you wanted Winchesters, I think your only bet would be to source a RH and LH Classic from New Haven and have them converted. You can buy the "Extreme" stock, its a B&C Medallist. Stockys stocks sells them, they're about 200$, but they DO require 1pc bottom metal

I think I'm going to have CZ put a Kevlar stock on my CZ 550 500 Jeffery and buy a stainless/synthetic 375. I'll take the CZ out bear hunting if I get a sunny day ... otherwise it will be the stainless 375. Never hurts to have a backup gun on an expensive hunt. My oldest son finishes his 4 year stint with the Rangers in 18 months and I promised him a left handed 375 H&H. We'll pick one out together, hopefully the M70s will have one in LH by then.

Chuck

They either did make them or they are making them. No clue, but this is a picture of one. Smiler

I'd also be more inclined to go with the RUger Alaskan.

the picture above is a Classic Stainless m70, discontinued at least six years ago. Since returning as FN m70's the only 375 H&H has been the Safari which is walnut/blued
