Hi, I let my unsuspecting colleague from work try my Remington 700, 458 Win Mag the other day. Gave him a 500gr Hornady and then started the camera The interesting part is not his slightly exaggerated reaction after the shot, but the last part of the clip which I turned to 10x slow motion. I think it's quite fascinating to see how the gun and his shoulder take off, while his head remains static for a while (The size of the clip is roughly 6 Mb) http://user.tninet.se/~scj351g/shooting/458_Win_Mag_recoil.avi Hope your software/codec can deal with this .avi clip. / Rikard

He shot one more, that was it for him You are right though about the tucking part. He shot his first moose with a 308 Win last year. That is the "worst" kicker he tried until I gave him my 458. If he would have been prepared for the oncoming kick, I'm sure he would have coped with it much better. He is my first true 458 "victim" / Rikard

Looks ok to me. If that hurt him he is a real Swedish pu... The T-rex would kill him If he is at the next Scandinavian big borew meeting I will make him some special loads for the .500 Jeffery. 650 grn API with max powder. Cheers, André Always always use enough... GUN & KNIFE

That brings back memories of all my ".458 Victims". Most of them came back for more though! The head motion is the one I noticed a time or two. After about 30 rounds my neck starts to get a bit sore. Still... I just love using the 458! Too bad there's nothing bigger than whitetails around here. NRA Life Member testa virtus magna minimum

That ain't too bad. A few years ago I took a friend of mine bird hunting. He had my old trusty 410 shotgun and I had my finiky side by side. At this point i should add that my buddy was 5'4" and maybe 100 lbs soaking wet. After we shot a few birds my buddy decided that he wanted to try my shotgun. I neglected to tell him that if he pulled the back triger both barrels would fire. All he had shot before was my 300 mag. So he lined up on an old tree and bang, he fell flat on his back. As he was laying there he handed me up the shotgun and told me in no uncertain terms where I could put it. I only wish I had video camera as this was the funniest thing I have ever seen. Needless to say it took him a few hours to get over it and to this day he always has to brag about how he handled both barrels on the 12 ga. Me thinks it's time for him to play with my 416 Rigby. This time I'll definatly have a camera set for this. If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness." - Alberta Provincial Court Judge Demetrick

In the last couple of days I've graduated to fireing 458 W.Mag factory loads off my bench. A good tight hold is the go, no pain anywhere, but I'm sure it bounces my brain around my skull, and I feel concussed each shot. Maybe my shoulder is aching just a little bit. John L.
