First of all welcome to the forum. Keep reading, you will gain a great amount of information from this forum.

As for your problem, I can think of three things.

First: Check the diameter of your bullets, may be a factory mistake and they are undersized.

Second: Check your rifle's bore size...again, maybe Ruger let one get by that was oversized.

Third: I had this problem with a .250 Savage M-99. I cut and recrowned the barrel and it was back to normal.

This may or may not help, but at least some ideas. Your .458 Lott should be perfect with the Hornady 500 grain bullets as that is what the hornady factory loads use. Good luck.

Oops--see that you apparently have a CZ 550 instead of a Ruger...same thought applies though.

458

I had a .458 Lott a number of years ago. It was a joy to load and shoot. Accurate and predictable. Killed all the smaller plains game for which I actually used it in great style!

For a logical discussion of your problem I think you should give some more info about the actual problem. Congomike made some good suggestions. But in addition I would like to know: How does the rifle perform with other bullets? If it doesn't stabilise any other bullet, well, you have a problem! If it stabilises all other bullets of about 350 to 400 grains, you have a different (Twist) problem. If you are trying to develop a reduced 500 grain load at low velocity, but the rifle stabilyses 500 grains bullets at maximum loads, you have another problem.

To get to some specific questions: 1. At what velocity do you shoot the 500 grain Hornadays? 2. How does the rifle do with other loads? 3. Many more questions.

Give some more info, and I'm sure some wizzard on this forum will be able to make a really meaningfull suggestion!

1. I dont remeber the exact velocity but i`t was somewhere betvene 2300fps-2427fps.
2.The only bullets i have used besides the 500gr hornadys is 405gr cast bullets and they made round hols i the target.

Is that somthing the gunsmith can do rong when hi rechambered it from a WIN to a Lott tho cause this problem????

A bad batch of bullets maybe? I've used the same bullet in 458 Win mag with no problem. I'd try

1. A different type of 500 grain bullet.

2. Measure rate of twist (should be around 1 in about 12 to 14 inches).

3. Have a gunsmith take a look at the gun.

Hope that helps.
