i was planning on getting a 338 federal, but some money issues came up and the federal was not going to happen. while waiting around i came up with the 50-110 sharps in my tc encore. (MGM Barrels makes it). its going to be awhile till i get it, but a 27" heavy factory barrel with 465gr lead bullets and flex tech stock.oh yeah, a 3-9x swift scope. i guessing around 9 lbs, i think. now i know this will not be a 1000 yards gun. probably 100-150 yards, is all i want to shoot a deer/black bear. smokeless powder is going to be used, i don't want black powder.

what smokeless powder, be it pistol or rifle, would you use? it should be around 1200-1300fps.

oh, does the 50-110 sharps kick? like a 30-06 or a 338 rum?(please don't say 338rum, please, please, please don't say 338 rum!) sofa

50-110 Sharps is same as the 50-90 Sharps, and 50-100 Sharps, all with 2.5" case,
just loaded with 110 grains of BP and a bullet short enough to allow it, eh?

COTW has a load for this 2.5" Big Fifty "Poison Slinger" using 465-grain lead bullet and 30.0 grains of IMR-4198 for 1320 fps:
Use a filler. tu2
My choice nowadays would be caulking backer foam rod, 1/2" or 5/8" diameter cut with a knife to proper length.

COTW says an old BP 50-90/100/110 Sharps factory load used a 473-grainer at 1350 fps.

I want a Ruger No. 1 chambered for the 50-140 Sharps 3.25", which was the same as the 50-140 Winchester Express.

This is because I need a rifle designed around a 777-grain .512-caliber gas-checked cast bullet. Need to pick a twist ...

What twist is your "Poison Slinger"?

I have yet to shoot the 50-90 Pedersoli Sharps, but it is about 11.75 pounds, so recoil will be mild.

The 50-70 Govt. Trapdoor (8-lbs-9-oz.) and Sharps carbine (8.0-lbs) that I have shot are also minimal kickers with 450-grain bullets at about 1100-1200 fps.
Very pleasant to shoot.

I used RL-7 in my 50-70 sharps.
