I have two .416 Rigby rifles, one the Ruger 77MII, the other the CZ 550. After having re-sized cases that had been fired in the Ruger they will not fit in the CZ. By not fit I mean that the bolt will not close. The problem is not the extractor as the bolt will close over a cartridge. The cases conform to the dimentions I have available although they are somewhat sketchy. Question, what gives? I would think the full-lenght sized cases would fit in the CZ...

If my dies my were up to spec, I would check for length of the sized cases. Another option is to use a black filt pen to blacken one case and then chamber it, where the colour is worn off- check for correct dimension. Check site below for dim. What brand of dies are You using? Hope it helps //Jens

Brett, Have you adjusted your resizing die so that you are full-length sizing the case? If you are just neck sizing the brass, it is not uncommon for brass fired in one rifle and neck-sized only, not to fit in another rifle of the same nominal caliber. jim dodd ------------------

Bret, I had the same problem interchanging ammunition between two 300 magnums. The cure for this problem was to use a "Small Base" sizing die. With smaller calibers the cheapest fix is to segregate ammunition between the rifles. However, especially with the price of rigby brass ...... interchangeability is important.

Noone makes a small base sizing die for a 416 Rigby, you could get special made dies byu sending in 3 fired cases... What you need to do is take a chamber cast of the CZ, and check the deminsions...You may need to cut a bit off the shell holder.. Another possible is to use the brass fired in each rifle for that rifle and don't mix them up. You apparantly have to different size chambers. The chamber of the CZ is apparantly very tight and you have to set the shoulder back to make it chamber and that can be done by cutting a little of it. ------------------

Thanks for the ideas! using a fet pin to get witness marks is good start, chamber mold is probably the ideal analysis tool. The cases were trimmed for lenght, no help. Thanks for the link to the page with dimentions. All very helpful.

I agree with RAY on using the brass only in the gun you shot it in. I have a 375 JRS rifle and pistol and I can not use the rifle brass in the pistol it will not fit.

Yeah, Ray has got it, 2 different rifles, 2 different reamers, althought the differences are in the thousands of an inch, it will cause a problem. I have even had trouble getting my .223 loads from my AR to work in my friend's Mini13 due to slight variations. Although I would shoot one piece of brass in the Ruger and then check if there is any creep.

Brett some brass cases I have had to resize twice for it to feed in My cz .416 rigby and my gundealer said that they had a very tight chamber. ------------------

That Ruger has a typically sloppy chamber & stretches too much when fired. ------------------
