I understand both Jeffe and shootaway are to attend the Saturday evening AR party at the comfort inn Jan 9th. May I propose moving the venue to Medieval Times Just down the road knife knife hammering? That would be great entertainment, just like on the Jim Carey movie, Cable Guy! HAHA!! sofa
We could begin the evening by feeding Frank Martinez to the lions!! sofa jumping

No wonder you burnt the barrel out of your Lott!

74 grains of H-4895 is a very mild load with 500 grin bullets in the Lott. Here is some data from my testing with 500 grain Hornady solids. I suspect they will be under 2,000 fps.

76 grains IMR-4320 2,041 FPS (Hornady 500 grain soft)
80 grains IMR-4320 2,111 fps
82 grains IMR-4320 2,177 fps
81 grains IMR-4320 2,142 fps
82 grains IMR-4320 2,197 fps

79 grains H-4895 2,162 fps
81 grains H-4895 2,142 fps
82 grains H-4895 2,258 fps

465H&H,I don't agree with your data.You should be getting more than 100 fps, over what you listed there,with a couple of those lott loads.The 79 grain H4895 load is a max load that should give you at least 100fps more than what you have there.


Shootaway,

Sorry you don't agree but I only report what I test. Your 79 grain max load is the one given in the Barnes manual and is for the overly long Barnes mono-metal bullets that that need to be deeply seated and therfore take up a lot of cartridge space.

I"ve tested the 500gr TSX and your results are way off.Let's look at your 82 and 83 grain load.How could 1 grain of powder give you over 100fps.

Missisippian,I am trying to make it to the event but I am still not sure if I could.It' still 50-50. I hope I can make it.If I do it will probably be for just a day or two.It will do me good to get out of here.I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

Flinch is when you jerk the gun like a little girl after it has kicked you too hard too many times. Your brain does not want to shoot the rifle any more and is trying to get your body away from it.

465H&H,
I finally got out to the range and chronographed a few more loads this time with h4895. I used Hornady brass with 215m primers and 500gr Hornady softnose.
75gr mv2177avg
76gr mv2211avg
77gr mv2230avg
78gr mv2238avg
79gr mv2244avg
80gr mv2326avg

I tried a couple of solid at 78gr and got mv 2368avg.

I seemed to get the same velocity jump as 465H&H only a couple of grains lower with the softnose.
The solids did shoot to the same point of impact as the soft nose albeit at much higher velocity.

I see you have a CZ550. I would guess you have the factory 25" barrel. My Lott had a 22" barrel and that probably explains the 2 grain difference.

I get around 2275 fps with 79grs of H4895 and 500gr molly coated bullets.This is my standard lott load-the load I always use in my lott rifles.The feedback I got from recoil,bolt function,case examining,made me draw the lign at 79 grains of H4895-my max load.

I'll get out to the range this Wednesday and rechrono my 79gr H4895 loads with 500gr a-frames and 500gr Woodleigh fmj's.I will use my Ruger to shoot and then post the results.On second thought,I'll use my newer Ruger and add the woodleigh PP bullet,try to match velocity with the three bullet types and then compare POI.
