I thought I'd post some pictures of the 500 A Square I built last week. It has a CZ550 Mag action ( .416 Rigby) boltface), Pac-Nor 1:12 twist barrel 27 inches long 1 inch at the muzzel and an integral muzzel brake and recessed crown ( done on an indexed Mill) the barrel is bead blasted. I should note that other than trueing-up the receiver face and some extensive reshaping of the bolt handle to clear the low mounted scope in Warne Rings, I had to do almost no action work to get the gun to feed. It holds three in the mag and one in the pipe. The chamber was throated to take .50 BMG bullets, both APIT and 750gr Hornady A-max as fun filled practice rounds ( see pics of a 750 A-Max). These rounds while far too long to feed through the box can be easily single loaded. The stock is the factory CZ that I reworked with a second cross-bolt, hidden second recoil lug and extensive steel bedding. The barrel is free floaded aft of the second lug. Scope is a 1.5-5 weaver grand slam ( for ha-ha's). This is just a temporary set-up as I have a new Mcmillan stock on order. I hope to test her out this weekend and take it to Africa for Buff this summer.

Note the cartridge line-up is .50 BMG with 850 gr Bore rider (230 gr H50BMG), 500 A square with 750 gr A-Max,470 NE,30-378 WBY,7 stw,375 H&H,243 win and a .17 Rem for comparison.-Rob

Rob,

How much does the gun weigh?

Nice rifle. Let us know how the recoil is with 600's and 750's.

What is McMillan getting out of you for the stock?

I have not weighed it yet.I have observed that as expected its quite muzzel heavy and if I keep the CZ stock, I'll probably put a mercury recoil reducer in the stock to better balance it. I suspect it will be in the 11-12 lb class. As for Mcmillan, the stock will cost about $325 but I have to send them the barreled action so that they can inlet it. apparantly, they don't normally do CZ actions.-Rob

Hi Rob,
Nice looking rifle. I thought that McMillan have their Express stock for the BBK and the 602 actions. The 550 is close but you will have to inlet the safety portion a little more. The stock is on their website. See what you think. I found out about it after I recieved my MPI stock and did the modification. 470 Mbogo

I ordered the express stock and they asked to have me send my barreled action to them for fitting. Frankly, I'm a bit reluctant to do so. Is the 550 action closer to the BBK or 602? It doesn'y bother me at all to do some inletting as I rather enjoy it and wind-up steelbedding everything anyway. I hope to shoot the gun tomorrow with a variety of loads and will report on it's performance.-Rob
