have any of you 404 guys chronographed the factory loads for velocity? I hear 2300 and 2400fps. Thanks, Rich Buff Killer

The only factory load currently available is the Hornady & it is limited supply. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Midwayusa carries Hornady, Kynoch and Norma factory ammo for the 404 Jeffery. BUTCH C'est Tout Bon (It is all good)

Well you are right, they do have Norma, but it's the non std. 450gr. The Kynoch, I am NOT buying $10/shot ammo, no matter how good! Anyone tried the Hornady yet? I will have to get a box just to try, but their bullets do interest me. LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

Rich, I believe that Alf recently reminded us that RWS loaded for the 404 Jeffery in 1972 and henceforth, but I don't know if they still do it. IIRC, the RWS loading was indeed for 400-grainer at about 2350 fps in a 24" barrel, by someone's actual chronograph testing, maybe Alf's. That would be a benchmark for staying within CIP spec for the cartridge. A Euro company would have to meet the CIP standards.

I've chronographed several Hornady loads in different calibers, being 22-250, 257 Roberts, 300 Wby, 375 H&H and 416 Rigby. All either met or exceeded advertised velocities and were pretty damned accurate. I'd no problem with shooting their loads if that's all I could get. As it is, I reload for all my rifles, but experiment with lots of stuff including factory loads. David
